OBITUARY FOR ALMA JOYCE WOOLDRIDGE On Saturday, June 10, 2023, surrounded by numerous loved ones, Alma Joyce Wooldridge succumbed to pulmonary fibrosis exacerbated by pneumonia. "Joyce" was born on March 29, 1948 to Thomas Olan (Joe Frank) and Helen Wooldridge. She lived on the family farm and ranch in Rockwall County and attended school in Royse City, Texas. She loved horses and was an accomplished rider. She was a barrel racing champion and rodeo queen. After graduating with honors from Royse City High School she attended Eastfield College where she studied art. Joyce worked as an administrative assistant at BOC Gases in Terrell, Texas and as the executive assistant to oil man and rancher Larry Blackmon of Blackmon and Associates in Dallas, Texas. At Blackmon and Associates she was able to use her knowledge of horses and cattle that she had learned as a young girl on the family ranch. In addition to her administrative and ranch work she was responsible for greeting the many foreign dignitaries and royalty who conducted business with Blackmon and Associates. The majority of Joyce's leisure time was spent riding and attending to her horses. She especially loved trail rides, and was a familiar face on many local trail rides, as well as the annual trail rides at Winnesboro, Texas and the Founders' Day Trail Ride near Austin, Texas. The week-long Founders' Day Trail Ride began outside of Austin, Texas and ending at the Travis County Exposition Center where the trail riders set the pace for the grand entry of the annual Founders' Day Rodeo. When she was no longer able to ride due to health problems, she channeled her love of animals to Texas Paw Prints in Rockwall, Texas. There she was a volunteer helping with feeding and fostering strays and rescues. Late in her life she met and fell in love with her soulmate Billy Pruitt of Lake Tawakoni, Texas. They spent the remainder of her life together enjoying trips to South Padre and Austin, Texas, boat riding on the lake, listening to music, and watching sunsets from the deck of the lake house. She is survived by: her children, Staci Thompson of Weatherford, Texas; Danny Thompson, his wife Cecelia, and their two daughters, Emily and Megan of Royse City, Texas; sister, Martha (Marty) Shaw and her husband Gary of Royse City, Texas; brother-in-law, Tom Knipstein of Royse City, Texas; sister-in-law, Kathy Wooldridge of Royse City, Texas; nephew, Jeff Carson of West Tawakoni, Texas; niece, Charlotte Carson of Quinlan, Texas; nephew, Matt Carson and his wife Laura, of Frisco, Texas; nephew, Eddy Wooldridge of Lake Fork, Texas; niece, Hannah Pagaza and her husband Edgar of Royse City, Texas; Lisa Beasley and her husband Blake of Midland, Georgia; Rebecca White-Shaw and her wife Malory of Terrell, Texas; Rachel Haskins and her husband Caleb of Canton, Texas; four great nephews; 8 great nieces; twin great-great nephews; and three great-great nieces. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Thomas Olan Wooldridge and Helen Wooldridge Wallace of Royse City, Texas; sisters Delores (Dee) Helm of Kaufman, Texas and Rita Knipstein of Royse City, Texas; and brother Tommy Joe Wooldridge of Royse City, Texas. The visitation will be Friday, June 23, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the funeral will be Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Max Slayton Funeral Home in Terrell, Texas. Following the funeral, interment will be at the Chisholm Cemetery in Chisholm, Texas.
