Billy Hargrove

William Robert Hargrove, “Billy” a lifelong resident of Terrell passed away on January 12, 2021 in Dallas. Billy was born on July 15, 1955 in Terrell, Tx to the late Mike D. and Willie Lee Jones Hargrove both of whom preceded him in death, along with his brother Tommy Hargrove. Billy enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, but gave up hunting as he got older because of his love for animals and all things of nature. He left home at a young age to see the world and was a self-taught man. He gained real world knowledge and worked in construction and later as a truck driver for various trucking companies including Walmart. He took great pride in driving his truck including owning his own truck for many years before retiring. After his retirement Billy was often found back behind the wheel of a truck, volunteering his time with Adopt A Block in Terrell. He and Hortensia were together 45 years and went on many adventures together in the truck and on vacations to Colorado where they enjoyed camping and nature. One might describe him as a “free spirit” who longed to be in nature mostly. He was kind and had an optimistic outlook on most things. He was always willing to help a friend or neighbor. In retirement, he volunteered his time at the local church food pantry and drove their trucks to pick up and deliver food in the area. Billy also enjoyed cooking on the grill and he made some of the most delicious steaks, ribs and brisket for his family to enjoy. He always worked hard to prepare his famous potato salad every Thanksgiving and Christmas. He was a simple man who will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Billy is survived by his wife Hortensia Hargrove of Terrell; step daughter, Charlene Pinkerton and husband Sam; step son, Harold Langley and his wife Gail; grandchild, Mason Pinkerton; sister, Sharon Bailey and her husband George; brothers, Michael Hargrove and Mark Hargrove and wife Robin, along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00am, Saturday, January 16, 2021 at First Assembly of God Church in Terrell. All friends and family are welcome to come and are asked to wear a mask.
