H. B. Patton

H.B. Patton, well known and well loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away into the presence of his Lord on the morning of Aug. 17, 2024. He was born March 5, 1939 in Chisholm, Texas to Harry and Maggie Patton, both of whom joyfully met him in Heaven along with his daughter, Anna Green; grandson, Remington Sabella; siblings: Shirley Flowers and husband, Thomas, Linda Burks and husband, Jerry, and brother-in-law, Lowrie Sanders. During his life, H.B. was the witness to many changes over almost nine decades. Growing up in a small farming community helped H.B. forge the values and beliefs that made him a unique blend of a man whose word was his bond and a servant to others. He was also a man who treasured the blessings God bestowed whether it was family, friends, land, or livestock. H.B.’s knowledge of farmland and his love for the countryside enabled him to work as a tax appraiser in Dallas and surrounding areas. H.B. had a front row seat in seeing how the counties of Dallas, Rockwall, Hunt and Kaufman changed as more and more folks came to appreciate the country living that he knew so well. When not working, H.B. enjoyed the sport of golf. He loved it so much; he began working at a pro golf shop after retiring from the Appraisal District. H.B. also took every advantage to enjoy being outdoors riding and training horses, going hunting, fishing or just sitting on his back porch to appreciate sunrises and sunsets. HB found a renewed love and appreciation for the Lord when he found Riding High Cowboy church. For the first time ever, HB said he had found a church home. He and Joy joined the church where they served on the arena team, he was active in the riding and roping ministry. A cowboy at heart, he became a frequent sight at the church teaching others about horsemanship and how to rope. He had a connection with horses and skills at riding and training cutting horses that were widely known. His love for roping and cowboying gave him the opportunity to become closer to the Lord and share that with others. Of all the things that made H.B. proud, he was the proudest to have raised three beautiful daughters who lived their lives with a firm foundation in the Lord. In 2005, he married the love of his life, Joy, and together, they blended their families to include the faith and love that they held so dear. Whether it was at church or at home, H.B.’s favorite places to be was on horseback, gathering with family and old friends. He made sure that everyone he met knew three things: he loved his Lord, he loved his family, and he loved his church! A man of traditional values who always could make you feel special every time you visited, H.B. will be greatly missed and forever remembered. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joy Patton; children: Julie Webster, Jennifer Nachtigall and husband, Ray, Keith Gorham and wife, Rhonda, Kathy Gorham, Patrick Gorham and wife, Tammy; grandchildren: Alex Green, Lynzie Green, Cameron Sabella, Cody Webster, Austin Patton, Trevor and Ella Nachtigall, Cami, Kelly, and Joshua Gorham, Chase, Kayla, and Chance Wheeler, Chelsea Martin, Sterling, Hunter, Nicholas, Trinity, and Brecken Gorham; 23 great grandchildren; sister, Doris Sanders as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family, church family and many friends. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 24, 2024 at Ridin' High Cowboy Church 8771 F.M. 35 Royse City, Tx 75189 with interment to follow at Chisholm Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks memorials be made to Ridin' High Cowboy Church.
