Juanita L. Spero

Juanita Louise Wilson Spero, of Terrell, passed away peacefully into the presence of her Savior on December 8, 2016. She was born Sept. 8, 1928 in Mineola, Texas to Marvin and Mary (Purdue) Wilson. Juanita was met in Heaven by her parents, her beloved husband, Billy Spero, her daughter, Vanessa Spero and sister-in-law, Marie Ballard. A lady with a hard work ethic that was embodied in her parents, Juanita and her entire family moved to the Portland area to assist with the WWII effort. She was raised to believe that everyone “did their part” with loyalty to family and friends. She was a woman who knew her own mind and also knew how to go about accomplishing anything she put her mind to. After marrying her husband in 1957, she and Billy moved to many places including Oklahoma, Amarillo, and Lubbock so that she could support him in his oil business. She was an integral part of his success with her steadfast support and her talent for organization. In 1978, they returned to Terrell, Billy’s hometown, where they settled and raised their family. She was very active in the community and was known for her forthright personality that was always combined with her heartfelt generosity. She owned several properties in town and, many times, it was well known that Juanita provided needed items, such as food, utility payments, and even Christmas presents, to her residents, all of whom she felt were her extended family. She had a feisty and spirited personality and, after the passing of her husband and daughter, she made sure to help others find their strength in her personal testimony. She was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church until her health began to decline but she never missed a chance to tell others of the Lord’s love for them in all circumstances. A lady of grace and endurance, Juanita will leave an unending legacy to so many who were privileged to know and love her. She is survived by her son, Michael Spero and his wife, Karen of Terrell as well as numerous extended family in the Cacas and Reagan nieces and nephews as well as other friends. Funeral service will be at 2:00pm, Monday, December 12, 2016 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel after which she will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Billy, at College Mound Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4pm, Sunday, December 11, at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations. For those wishing, memorials may be made in honor of Juanita to the charity of your choice.
