Patrick James Barrett

Patrick James Barrett (Skip), 64, of Terrell, Texas, passed away suddenly after a long struggle with kidney disease on September 1, 2023. He was born on September 7, 1958, in Newport Beach, CA. Patrick loved music, so after graduating from Rio Linda High School (where he met his wife Becky), he joined & served in the Marines as a drummer for the Marine Corp Band. While he wanted to be a professional drummer, he changed direction, going back to school to become a Telecom Engineer (which is the job he retired from). Patrick loved cooking all kinds of food like bread, cookies & dinner for his still working wife of 44 years. He recently acquired the skill of container gardening, planting lethal peppers that he turned into spices. He loved movies (old westerns, war movies, Downton Abbey & the Great British baking show). He loved to talk & had the gift of being able to converse with all kinds of people about any subject for any length of time. He was always ready with jokes or funny stories to tell. He loved to ride dirt bikes, but he had to pivot to electric scooters due to his health. He spent a lot of time with his dogs (Piper & Maci), throwing frisbees and walking them around the neighborhood on his scooter (he can tell you all the various routes, their miles, which dogs to watch out for, where all the rabbits were, etc.) Most of all, Patrick loved his family, keeping in touch with his family outside of Texas & spending time with his boys and grandchildren (and his wife of course). Patrick is survived by his spouse Becky; his sons Patrick Jr & his wife Hannah; Michael; his grandchildren Sofia & Rosalind; his parents Dorothy & Clarence Howard; his sister Laura Barrett, his brothers Tim, Dan & Wayne Howard; and his beloved dogs Piper & Maci. Patrick filled any room he was in and will be deeply missed by us and all that knew him. In honor of Patrick's memory, contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org) or the National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org). These organizations were close to his heart, and any donations made will support their important work. Please take care of yourselves and others.
