Bill Swann

With heavy hearts, we celebrate the life of Bill Swann—a devoted husband, father, brother, papa, and friend. Born in Fort Riley, Kansas, Bill was raised with love and resilience by his mother Virginia and stepfather Donald, alongside his four brothers. He carried that same strength and spirit throughout his life. A lifelong hard worker, Bill pursued mechanics and engineering, eventually founding Raindance Irrigators and later Swann Construction Services—businesses built with heart and determination. He was a man of grit, grace, and generosity, whose entrepreneurial spirit inspired all who knew him. Bill was the best example of “work hard, play hard,” always making room for one of his main passions: drag racing. What started out as a little weekend hobby, turned into a National event Wally, endless nights of laughter, and lifelong friendships. Although he was very proud of his race cars, and going 220mph in 6 seconds, his greatest achievement was his family. In 1987, Bill's world changed forever when he earned the most meaningful title of all: Dad, with the birth of his first child. Then, in 1994, life gifted him another beautiful chapter when he married Shayla, embracing a blended family with open arms and unconditional love. Their love welcomed two more children and a growing number of grandchildren, each one a treasured part of his legacy. Though his final chapter was marked by illness, it was also filled with meaningful conversations, quiet strength, and unwavering faith. Bill faced the road ahead with peace in his heart, proud of the full life he lived, and knowing who he’d be accompanied by in Heaven. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Swann, Virginia, and Donald Edgemon; his daughter-in-law Jacy Swann; and his best friends, Robert (aka: Bunny Rabbit) and Butch Taylor. Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Shayla Swann; his children: Shalerie (Jon) Headley, Shalise Quinlan, Caroline (Ty) Karl, Shalaine (Keaton) Alexander, William Joseph (Baylee) Swann and Shawnee (Blayne) Swann-Ortiz; his brothers: John Swann, Larry Swann, Donnie Edgemon, and Steve Edgemon; and his cherished grandchildren: Kaliber Alexander, Mikayla Headley, Gavin Headley, Karington Alexander, Greyson Quinlan, Harrison Karl, Ember Swann, Cooper Karl, Owen Karl, Olivia Karl, and Jase Swann.
