Donna Moore

Donna Jean Moore, beloved Mother, Grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on June 9, 2026, in Terrell, Texas. Donna was born in Ewing, Nebraska to Royvan and Grace (Thoendel) Day on January 12, 1935. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Moore; sister, Pat Wilkerson, and brothers: Bill Day, Dick Day, Bud Day, and Jerry Day. Donna was raised in Nebraska where she attended a small one room building in the country until 8th grade. She transitioned to Wheeler County High School, graduating in 1952 before attending three different colleges in Nebraska. With many days spent studying and realizing she had a talent for teaching, Donna pursued a career in education as a third-grade teacher. Her activities at school showed usefulness to her in her later years. She ran track in high school, and one of her classmates, Lila, once said that if she were to be racing Donna, she already knew she would finish in second place because no one could beat her. Those track days served her well while raising her two boys, Mike and Randy—when they tried to run from her, she always managed to catch them, covering them in kisses and enveloping them in hugs. She and the boys always had many fond adventures, along with the love of her life, Jerry Moore, whom she married on June 7, 1954. Their family was sculpted of devotion and love and remained strong throughout Jerry’s passing in 2002. While Donna loved the education field, she felt her true calling in the medical field. Her attention to others and heart for care was witnessed in great measure when she began working at the Terrell State Hospital in July of 1985. Her experience and dedication led her to become a CNA and eventually a Service Supervisor, where she stayed until her retirement. Donna had an ambitious mind and set to learn and master as many activities she could. She enjoyed writing, drawing, and working with her hands with crochet and sewing. Her imagination could conjure up anything from nothing, and Donna wasted no time spoiling her grandbabies with her immense talent. When she was not creating handmade treasures, Donna would cook many delicious meals for her family and always on the hunt for a bargain at the garage sales. A headstrong, fiercely loving, independent woman, Donna will forever be missed by those who had the honor of knowing her. She is survived by her sons: Mike “Popeye” Moore and Randy Moore and wife, Kathy; grandchildren: Dakota Moore, Aspen Moore and Ashlee Hickman and husband, Earl, Steven Hill and wife, Stephanie, Natasha Jeffries and husband, Keven; great grandchildren: Omar Brown, Andre Brown, Andreah Brown and Cohen Williams; special friend, Opal as well as many extended family and a host of friends. The family would like to thank the team at Hospice Plus for their exceptional service, especially Ryanne Hamilton and Chaplain Scott Mabry for their care and dedication to the Moore Family. Services for Donna will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at the Max Slayton Funeral Chapel in Terrell, Texas, with an interment to follow at College Mound Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00p.m. - 6:00p.m., Tuesday June 16, 2026 at the funeral home.
