Doris Nell Vincent

Doris Nell “Grammer” Vincent, 88, passed away April 21, 2016 peacefully and surrounded by her family. She was born June 7, 1927 in Ft. Worth, Tx to Earl and Ethyl (Reed) McGoldrick, both of whom preceded her in death along with her husband, Morgan Vincent and sister, Florence Hester. Doris was known for her love for children-not just her own children and grandchildren (whom she doted on every single day) but to all children that came to love her and call her Grammer. She was the “ultimate” mom in that she volunteered and served where ever she could that concerned her children and their friends. She was a room mother, PTA President, Carnival mom and would make sure to always lend a hand in any activity that allowed her to show her love for kids. She was fun and feisty with a fantastic wit and sense of humor that was always a welcome combination in the activities she was a part of. Her grandchildren remember the times they went swimming and she would bring them snack of fish sticks and watermelon as they played and swam. During school hours, Doris took care of things needing to be done, all the while thinking of more adventures she could share with all her kids, then grandkids and their friends. Doris was continually interested and involved in her grandkids lives and her devotion was made very evident with the blankets she made for each of them so that, even when apart from her-seldom as it was- they would always know the warmth of her love. Doris enjoyed Christmas and it was common for her to have some special hand-picked decorations up year round and even several decorated trees in her home during the holiday season. She was a member of Meadowbrook United Methodist Church in Ft. Worth where she had many friends while she served there. Any time that a person needed encouragement, a kind word or a helping hand, Doris could set the example of being a wonderful and giving Grammer to all. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters: Phyllis Vincent of Terrell and Teresa Nixon of Frisco; grandchildren: Noah Ward, Leah Ward and Jake Nixon as well as countless other young lives that she influenced with her vibrant laughter, enduring loyalty and her unconditional love. She will be missed so very much and never forgotten. Funeral services for Doris will be at 11:30am, Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with the family receiving her many friends beginning at 10:30 to service time. She will be laid to rest at 3:00pm, Saturday, at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington.
