Gerline "Gerri" Pitts

Gerline (Gerri) Walker Pitts, of Wills Point, passed away peacefully into the presence of her Savior on March 23, 2024. Gerri was born July 28, 1951, in Morrilton, Ark. to James and Sadie (Bell) Walker, both of whom also welcomed her into Heaven along with her son Dewayne W. Pitts, and family, Arthur J. Walker; Herman D. Walker; Alice B. Reed; Alpha V. Riley; Henry Leon Walker. Gerri graduated from East Side High School in Menifee, Arkansas; after which, she attended State College of Arkansas in Conway, Ark. While at SCA, she met Sam Pitts. For Sam, it was and still is, love at first sight. For Gerri, it was shall we say, lukewarm interest. However, as many great love stories go, time passed and they soon realized they had much more in common than initially thought. Sam and Gerri were married on June 3, 1973 in Springfield, Ark. Gerri was a devoted wife and mother. Her priority was, and always would be, her family. As Sam realized that the Lord was calling him to the ministry, Gerri showed that she was not only dedicated to her family, but also to helping Sam enlarge the Kingdom for God. Gerri’s personality could be described as quiet and reflective. However, her commitment to teaching others about the Gospel emboldened her to stretch past her quiet personality to be a beacon for Christ. Off and on through the almost 51 years of marriage, Gerri was a beloved school teacher who positively impacted numerous students’ lives with her commitment to their education and development. Using biblical principles built on faith and love, Gerri provided her family, church family and students a foundation to assist them throughout their own lives. When not working or serving at church, Gerri enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading and always loved planning trips with family to see new sights and destinations. A true Proverbs 31 woman who embodied the Christ-like light to all who met her, Gerri will be forever missed and never forgotten. She leaves her legacy of love to be carried on by her husband, Sam W. Pitts, Jr.; son, S. Wesley Pitts, III, and wife, Penelope; daughter, Katrena G. Pitts; siblings: Joyce Crockett, Amos Walker, Ben Walker and wife, Ruby, Pauline Walker, Gladys Washington and husband Earl, and Mike Walker and wife, Jeri, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, other extended family, her church family and many students, each of whom will miss Gerri greatly. A gathering of Gerri’s family and friends with visitation will be 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel where all are welcome to share the many stories of her life and her legacy.
