Henrietta Riley

Henrietta Riley, of Terrell, passed away surrounded by her family on July 13, 2018. Henrietta was born in Van Zandt County, TX on December 5, 1921 to John Franklin and Ruby (Miller) Crane. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charley R. Riley; sons: Thomas Earl Hunter, John Wayne Hunter; grandchildren: Larry Dean Hunter, Jr., Kim Haggard; son-in-law, Bill Buckley; siblings: Otis Crane, Nadine Crane, Delores Preston, and Arlou Murray. Henrietta worked for, and retired from, the Terrell State Hospital where her willingness to help in all situations enabled her to have the reputation of being a devoted and hard working caretaker. She was a beloved wife and mother and later on a treasured grandmother. Henrietta was also a dedicated member of First Missionary Baptist Church where she also held the distinction of being the ‘oldest member’ and her wisdom was truly sought after by the other church members as they witnessed how her love of Christ was evident in her life. She loved to garden and knit in her spare time as well as enjoy watching NASCAR and her soap operas. Always wanting to learn new things and keep her mind sharp, Henrietta could also often be found reading and solving puzzles to pass the time but, by far, the time she spent with her family was her favorite way to enjoy the days and evenings. A gentle spirit with an abounding love for those she cared for, Henrietta will be missed dearly by her family, friends and church family. She leaves to cherish her legacy of love and generosity her children: Nancy Nell Buckley of Terrell, Larry Dean Hunter and wife, Martha, of Terrell, Rose Etta Johnson and husband, Junior, of Elmo; grandchildren: Kim Willingham and husband, Gary, Rodney Dean Vick, Tina Delp and husband, Jerry, Wayne Johnson and wife, Trish, Brandy Wood and husband, Billy, Randy Hunter, Danny Hunter and Shelly Haggard; 20 great grandchildren and 32 great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family along with her good friend, Ollie Smith. Funeral service will be at 11:00am, Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Oakland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8pm, Tuesday, July 17, at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations.
