Jack R. Davis

Jack R. Davis, of Terrell, passed away into the presence of his Savior on the morning of Feb. 15, 2026. Jack was born June 4, 1938 in Terrell to James and Ida Davis, both of whom preceded him in death along with his son, Terry and his siblings: Glenda, Joan, Shirley, Jerry and Freddie. A lifelong resident of Terrell, Jack grew up in a small town where everyone knew everyone. He attended Terrell schools and was known as “Red Bird” during his high school years and graduated from THS in 1956. After working at a few opportunities, Jack developed a everlasting friendship/partnership of almost 25 years with John and Betty Jo McMahan. They owned and operated Boots Liquor on E. Moore and Jack’s congenial personality made every interaction the brightest part of each of his customers’ days. On June 12, 1959, he married the love of his life and his best friend, Carolyn, in Greenville, TX. From the day they met, Jack and Carolyn were inseparable and raised their family in a home filled with love, treasured memories and many good times. His family lovingly referred to him as “Diamond Jack” both because of his card playing skills and the fact that they considered him truly precious. He was a faithful and longtime member of Terrell First Assembly of God where for many years, he and Carolyn were active in church ministries and groups. As Jack’s health began to be affected, Carolyn and he still made the best of every day, giving praise and glory to the Lord and holding close their family members and many friends. A man who always loved with his whole heart, Jack will be forever remembered and cherished even longer. He leaves his legacy to be carried on by his beloved wife of 66 years, Carolyn Davis; son, Michael Wayne Davis; grandchildren: Clint, Danielle, Carey Dale, Ashley, Hansen, Keifer, and Sky; 13 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Michael Ann Davis, Barbara Davis and Mitty Bowden along with several nieces, nephews, other extended family, church family and many friends. Funeral service will be at 11:30am, Saturday, Feb.21, 2026 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Elmo Cemetery. His family will receive friends beginning at 10:30am to service time.
