Jack Tankersley

Jack Owen Tankersley was born on April 19, 1931 in Terrell, Texas to Bert and Willie Sewell Tankersley and he had his birthday into Heaven on July 3, 2016 after a short illness. Graveside service will be at 10:00am, Thursday, July 7, 2016 at College Mound Cemetery with a celebration of Jack’s life to immediately follow and be held at 11:00am at College Mound United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Jack was a graduate of Terrell High School, a veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Army and a faithful and active member of College Mound UMC. On December 10, 1952, Jack married the love of his life, Maxine and from this union, two daughters were born: Vivienne Tankersley Flowers and Madeleine Tankersley Brown. For many years after returning from serving in Japan during the Korean War, he farmed the land of the Tankersley “homeplace”. Jack later became a licensed plumber, a job he held for over 30 years until his retirement in 2001. Even after retirement, Jack continued to remain active and he could often be seen mowing the church cemetery. Of all his jobs and activities, taking care of the cemetery grounds was one of the most rewarding to him as it was done out of love, honor and respect for the many family and friends that had always meant so much to him. Jack will be remembered as a loving husband and the best Daddy and Granddaddy any one could ever want. He exhibited love beyond measure and was always there to provide guidance, support and wisdom. Jack was welcomed into Heaven by his mother and father, his sister, Evelyn Tankersley; brothers: Dennis, Ralph and Charles Tankersley; sisters-in-law: Marguerite Winton Howie and Vodene Winton; brothers-in-law: Orban Winton, Sr., and Grady Sanders, Sr. Those left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 64 years, Maxine Tankersley; daughters: Vivienne Flowers and husband Gary of Terrell, TX, Madeleine Brown and husband, Richard, of Tomball, TX; grandchildren: Julie Flowers of Paris, TX, Joni Flowers of Athens, TX, Brett Brown of Lewisville, TX, Scott Brown of Tomball, TX, Jana Brown of Tomball, TX; sister, Ruth Flory of Austin, TX; sisters-in-law: Ada Freret of Terrell, Hope Tankersley of Washington, DC, Frances Tankersley of Terrell, TX, Thelma Sanders of Hallettsville, TX and brother-in-law, Homer Winton of Terrell as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended family and a host of dear friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials in honor of Jack’s dedication to the cemetery be made to College Mound Cemetery, PO Box 105, Terrell, TX, 75160.
