James Fincannon

James Fincannon, beloved husband, brother, uncle and friend passed away in Kemp, Texas on August 24, 2026. Jim was born October 4, 1960 in Fort Benning, Georgia, a beloved son to his parents, Landrum Fincannon, Sr. and Geneva Landis, both of whom preceded him in death along with his sister, Debra Goodman, and stepson, Justin Schweers. Growing up in Texas, Jim enjoyed all kinds of adventures to the fullest. A lover of a good project, Jim could often be found working with his hands whether it was woodworking, welding and making repairs on just about anything. He enjoyed photography and was a professional photographer at Devil’s Bowl Racetrack in Mesquite. Jim was a dedicated employee and worked at Tyson and Cardinal Glass in Durant for over 20 years. One day at work, Jim rescued his favorite dog, Rocky, during a rainstorm. Jim and Rocky took good care of each other for over 12 years. Being a cowboy at heart, spending time with his horses and a donkey while working on the 13 acre farm that he was so proud of brought Jim the greatest joy. Many fun hours were spent listening to country music and two-step dancing with his wife of 8 years, Linda. While celebrating his 59th birthday, Jim enjoyed seeing Chris Stapleton and hearing great music paired with great memories. Jim was a fighter and cancer survivor having beat testicular cancer at 19 years old, then lung and brain cancer at 57 years old. He would always stay positive and smile through the most difficult treatments. While he was chiefly easy going, Jim could also hardheaded at times. While getting chemo treatment in a Dallas hospital at 19 years old, he had tickets to a rock concert that he was determined to attend. He disconnected his IV, got dressed, walked to a bus stop and went to the concert, and then being a responsible young man, returned to the hospital and hopped back in bed. Jim loved his family fiercely, doing anything he could to help and support them. Jim will be loved and missed by his wife, family and friends and he will be forever remembered by those who will continue to cherish his memory. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Linda Schweers; her daughter, Andrea LeCompte and husband, Hobbes, and their children Paige and Angelina; her son, Brian Schweers and wife, Angi, and their children, Penny and Wally; his sister, Sybil Vasquez, and her children, Valerie and Salena; brother, Landy Fincannon and wife, Anna, and their children: Joshua, Michelle and Emmanuel; his brother-in-law, Dwayne Goodman and his children Shalom Brown and Michael Goodman along with many great nieces and nephews Jim was extraordinarily proud of. A celebration of his life will be at 11:00am, Friday, October 2, 2026 at Reflections Venue by Max Slayton Funerals with Jim's family receiving friends beginning one hour prior to service time.
