James "Jim" Hendricks Jr.

James Robert (Jimmy) Hendricks Jr., 84, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle of Poetry, Texas, passed away on April 9, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving sons who cared for him the last few days of his life. Jimmy is preceded in passing by his parents; step-father, Dave Brown, and brother-in-law, Don Strickland. Jimmy was born on July 3, 1939 in McKinney, Texas to James Sr and Pauline Hendricks. In his youth, he moved to Terrell, Texas, where he would spend the rest of his life. Jimmy graduated from Terrell High School in 1957. Soon after graduation, he met the love of his life, Judy Venner of Forney. Their marriage lasted over 62 years until her passing in 2023. He carried her in his heart through his final days. Jimmy and Judy were inseparable and created many fond memories in their time together. They brought two wonderful sons into the world and raised them with love and integrity. Soon after marriage, Jimmy began employment at Tom Thumb to provide for his young family. His fierce work ethic and determination to complete a job well done, was recognized when he opened his own lumber company with Mr. Stanley Ballard, dubbing it “Home Lumber Company”. Jimmy dedicated many years to Home Lumber, before deciding it was time to settle down and enjoy the country life with Judy. They loved the outdoors and were avid gardeners, had chickens and goats and shared anything they produced with family, friends and neighbors. The garden that they meticulously cared for produced a variety of fruits and vegetables. Great meals and canned goods arose from this garden and Jimmy certainly enjoyed the meals prepared by Judy! Both Jim and Judy took pride in their garden and all of the beauty that grew from it. Jimmy had a desire to enjoy life starting with mischievous high school years, his career at the lumber yard, at home spending time outside, fishing, weekends at the Terrell Boat Club and in his later years, watching old westerns! More than anything, however, Jimmy will be remembered for the years of love he shared with Judy, Rob and Dave. Left to cherish Jimmy’s memory are his two loving sons: Rob Hendricks and Dave Hendricks; grandson, Ryan Hendricks; great granddaughter Audrey Hendricks; sister Linda (Tiddle) Strickland; brother Rick Hendricks (Barbara); nieces and nephews: Randy ( Dana), Riley and Cade Strickland; Donalyn (Don), Reid Sherer and Katie Lambert; Laci and Laurie Hendricks; special neighbors Russ Wallace and Santos Vidales, along with many other extended family and friends that will miss Jimmy and continue to carry his legacy on. Honoring Jimmy's request, no services have been made at this time.
