Jerry Hanna

Jerry Hanna, Sr., known to so many as Big Seeky, Big Daddy, Boss, Dad, Daddy, Pawpaw and Baby, passed away peacefully after fighting the good fight against cancer. Jerry was born May 27, 1948 in Hiram, Texas to John Daniel and Ida Lorene (Davis) Hanna both of whom preceded him in death along with his brother, Danny Hanna Sr. and his sister, Margie Owsley. A man whose integrity shaped every aspect of his life, Jerry made sure that his family was his first priority and he shared his love for them daily and with every example of provision that he could offer. He worked as a carpenter/craftsman for over 50 years. He had an outstanding talent for building homes. He enjoyed hunting in his spare time and he absolutely loved to play the guitar. Jerry never met a stranger and all who met him became instant friends, the times spent with his family are times Jerry considered the best and he was tremendously proud of his children and his grandchildren. Jerry was a devoted husband to Renee for 33 years and together they embodied how a couple grew together in love and life. Every day, he and Renee made sure to tell the other their signature phrase: “I love you Always and Forever” and their bond symbolized their shared promise of commitment and endlessness. So many will miss Jerry but each person that loved and knew him also know that, until they see him again in Heaven, his legacy will still be cherished. Those left to carry his memory in their hearts are: his wife, Renee Hanna, of Terrell; children: Jerry Hanna Jr., Melody Oberley and husband Shane Oberley, Kevin Hanna, Amber Pendleton and husband Roger Pendleton; grandchildren: Hannah and Adian Pendleton, Drew Hanna and wife, Erica Hanna, Cody, Colton and Chance Hanna, Kaine Oberley, Dylan McCay and Jadyn Oberley; sisters: Wanda Nichols and husband, Daniel, Sue Hanna; brother, Billy Hanna and wife, Joyce; beloved young men that Jerry considered as his sons: Joseph Moreno and Santos Meador as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends who loved him and will miss him greatly. Funeral service will be at 11:00am, Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Locust Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8pm, Friday, June 16, 2017 at the funeral home. The family would like to extend special words of gratitude to Roger Pendleton and Joseph (JoJo) Moreno for their help during Jerry’s illness. Our family has a hope and a help. As the psalmist says in Psalm 121:1-2, “I will lift up my eyes to the mountains, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of Heaven and Earth”. We grieve but we also know we WILL see Jerry again when we are all reunited with him and our Savior.
