Jerry Nelson

Jerry Lee Nelson, Sr., of Seagoville, passed away on October 25, 2024 in Dallas. Jerry was born November 12, 1940 in Edgewood, Tx to Lossie Lee and Ina Faye Nelson, both of whom preceded him in death. Growing up in a small rural town gave Jerry an appreciation for farm life and hard work. After attending high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force in 1961 where he served with honor and distinction for 8 years after which he continued to proudly serve his country for 9 more years with the National Guard from 1969 to 1978. Jerry had an aptitude for engineering, and he began a career in communications with Western Electric then moved to Southwestern Bell Telephone, later AT&T. For over three decades, his knowledge of communication components and making them accessible for a growing society enabled him to become a respected colleague to many coworkers until his retirement in 2001 from AT&T. When not working, Jerry truly loved being on his farm and taking care of livestock, especially his cows. He also enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife of 27 years, Jean, and was often found gardening at his farm in Terrell or the house at Seagoville. He and Jean also enjoyed traveling together and spent many trips making memories with each other and family. Jerry was not only a loving husband, he was a devoted father to his two sons, Skip and Jamie, and he was tremendously proud of both of the men his boys had become. His smile was always the first thing others notice when meeting Jerry and his ability to make anyone feel like an old friend in a few minutes of visiting will always be remembered by those who knew him. A man who was devoted to his family and dedicated to his work, Jerry’s heritage will be proudly carried on into his family’s future generations. He leaves his memory to be forever cherished by his wife, Jean Nelson; his sons: Jerry Lee Nelson, Jr. (Skip) and Jamie Nelson and wife, Lawanda; his grandchildren: Tad Nelson, Brianna Nelson, James Nelson, and Chad Nelson, Kaleigh Moore and Slaton Austin; great grandchildren: Kaden, Grayson, Tucker, Toby, Aaryn, Jake, Austin, Olivia, Eli; brother, Donald Ray Nelson and wife, Wanda; stepdaughter, Christi Austin; his beloved cow, Samantha and many other extended family and friends. A Memorial Service will be at 2:00pm, Friday, November 1, 2024 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel where all are welcome to attend and celebrate his legacy.
