Jewel Dansby

Jewel Lee Arington Dansby passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the age of 100. She was born December 16, 1916 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to James Henry Arington and Dixie Ann Davidson Arington, and grew up in Arapaho, Oklahoma. She graduated from Arapaho High School in 1934, and married Hiram Elmo Dansby on October 31, 1936 in Quartzite, Arizona. The Dansbys moved to Terrell, Texas after WWII and operated a successful dairy north of Terrell until he passed away in 1957. They were members of the First Christian Church of Terrell, where she continued to worship throughout the rest of her life. Jewel was an active member of the Crusaders Adult Sunday School class for many years. She worked as a dental hygienist at Terrell State Hospital for a number of years after her husband’s death, then for East Texas Motor Freight, where she retired after years of service. Jewel is preceded in death by her husband and parents, her son Phillip Glenn Davenport and great-granddaughter Victoria Sanders, as well as her brothers Zether, James Jr., Paul, and Billy Arington, and sister Opal. She was especially close to her brother Paul Arington and his wife Frances, of Arapaho, OK, sister Opal Woody of Oregon, and sister-in-law Tommie Squier. She is survived by her son Michael Edward Dansby, Sr., and wife Nancy of Terrell, three grandchildren, Michelle Lee Wright and husband Ed, of Blue Ridge, Texas and their children, Brad Duke and Elizabeth Wright; Michael Dansby Jr., of Ft. Worth, Texas, and daughters Marguerite, Mylie, Sasha, and Aden; and James Dansby of Van, Texas, and children Zachary, Sierra, and Savannah. She is also survived by her nephew Dan Squier and wife Cynthia, along with sons Stuart and Christopher Squier, of Virginia; her niece Linda Elston, husband Danny, and great-niece Lisa Grybowski, husband Brett, and children Corbin, Ashley, and Kinley Grybowski, all of Arapaho, Oklahoma; and by her grandchildren Brenda Lee Sanders, Debi Lynn Hartranft and husband Walter, Phillip Glenn Davenport Jr., Kristy Ann Lachance and husband Michael, Linda Dee Smedley and husband Ken, William Lyle Davenport and wife Jenny, and great-grandchildren Kermit Ryan Sanders, Cassi Jean Phillips and husband Dale, Haley Nicole Roderick, Jacob Hunter Wall, Rebecca Faith Davenport, Samantha Grace Davenport, Garrett John Phillip Lachance, and great-great grandchildren Aurora Belladonna Phillips, and Ryan Sanders. Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday September 2, 2017 in Max Slayton Funeral Chapel, 642 N. Rockwall Ave., Terrell.
