Karen Sue Dunlap

Karen Sue O’Kelley Dunlap of Burleson, Texas went to be with the Lord on December 21, 2022, in Fort Worth, Texas. Karen was born on September 11, 1953, to Charles Leonard and Nelly Ruth O’Kelley in Brighton, Tennessee. Both of Karen’s parents preceded her in death, as well as her stepmother Mariam O’Kelley, in addition to her precious Grandmother, Mama Stewart. Karen was a one-of-a-kind individual with a personality everyone came to cherish. Once you met her, she was sure to make her way into your heart instantly. If you needed a laugh (like the kind where you only hear wheezing), she was your person. Sometimes, you might even catch her using one of her made up words, like ‘Boba-Chica’. Caring for all in her own unique way, she had a deep love for her family and made them the center of all that she would do. She was well loved and affectionately called ‘Nana’. Spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren was her most prized past-time. Many can vouch that Nana was the best storyteller out there! Karen was passionate about her favorite sports team, the Dallas Mavericks, and any time they played she was sure to tune in. Having grown up in the country, Karen always appreciated being outdoors, and loved to reminisce about the times spent with family, in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. On any given day, you would more than likely find her with a fishing pole in hand, around any body of water she could find. Left to cherish Karen’s treasured memories, are her daughters Melissa Alcocer and husband Ben, Rachel Hamende, Samantha LaFerney and husband Carl. Also left to carry on Karen’s legacy, are her grandchildren Corbyn Alcocer, Alyse Brandenburg and husband Jonathan, Mason Hamende, Shelby Hamende, Layla Hamende, and Lucy LaFerney; along with her great-grandchildren Brylie and Brodie Brandenburg. She was survived as well, by her siblings Donna Bennett, Betty Baker, Marcia O’Kelley and Neal O’Kelley, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a widespread host of friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, December 29, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, December 30, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Both events will be held at: Max Slayton Funeral Chapel 642 North Rockwall Avenue Terrell, TX 75160
