Kitty Cernoch

Kitty Cernoch, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother,great-great grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away into the presence of her Savior on May 25, 2026 at her home with her loving family at her side. Kitty was born November 15, 1930, to Stewart and Beulah David, both of whom preceded her in death along with her husband, Louis Cernoch, Sr., and her siblings: Audrey Lewis, Adeline Dennis, Billie Morse, Nathan David, Helen Belcher, and SA David. Kitty was a longtime and faithful member of First Baptist Church in Terrell where she was active in many ministries. She was a 6th grade Sunday School teacher for many years and every summer, she was a vital part of VBS helping with the snacks and lunches and keeping the kiddos energized with her fun-loving spirit and bright smile. Kitty also worked as a nurse with Dr. D.T. Friddell for many years and also worked for Kaufman Hospital where her gentle spirit and kindness made a difference in each patient’s life. Always having a love for children, Kitty began working as a nurse with Terrell ISD, where for many years she provided the same kindness, compassion and care for the kiddos (and even some teachers, too!) After retiring from working full time in 1995, she began working at FlowerFields Florist. Kitty loved all flowers, especially yellow roses, and the flowers she helped arrange were almost as bright as her smile! Retirement also allowed Kitty to enjoy the slower pace of life where she was able to so more things she loved: getting to spend time with her family as well as gardening, making and creating beautiful hand-made dolls and playing card games with her favorite being Canasta. She absolutely loved when family and friends gathered at her home and could always be found cooking up the best meals, including her famous fried potatoes, a dish she was well known for. No matter what Kitty had planned for her day, she was always making sure others were taken care of. She always made time to be the caretaker for those she loved with her trademark thoughtfulness and generosity. A true Proverbs 31 woman, Kitty will forever be remembered for her faith, love and devotion to all who knew her. She leaves her legacy of love to her children: Kitty Harwell and husband, Perry, Louis Cernoch, Jr. and wife, Jackie, and Barbara Penny and husband, David; grandchildren: Kitty Michelle Franklin, Wendy Rucker, Justin Louis Cernoch, Amy Cernoch and Brandi Thomas; great grandchildren: Dakota Rucker, Tori Rucker, Luke Norris, Andrea White, MaryBeth Beam, Harper Cernoch, Fieval Thomas, Boston Thomas, Asher Thomas and Corinne Thomas; great-great grandchildren: Chloe and Elijah White; sister, Bernice Gross along with several nieces, nephews, other extended family and her church family, each of whom will greatly miss Kitty. Funeral service will be at 11:00am, Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Campground Cemetery. Her family will receive friends beginning at 10:00am to service time.
