Lance Taylor

Lance Van Taylor, beloved husband, father, son, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 26, 2023. Lance was born in Russellville, Arkansas on December 3, 1962 to Joe and JoAnn Taylor. Lance was welcomed into Heaven by his uncles, Charles Van Zandt and Charles Fowler, his grandparents: Jim and Ruth Van Zandt and JD and Ruby Taylor along with his mother-in-law, Nancy Martin. Lance was a 1981 graduate of Sulphur Springs High School where he was a noted athlete. During his senior year, he set the record for average yards carried in varsity football and was voted MVP that year as well. He also loved hunting and racing motorcycles with his family and friends. His fearlessness was legendary! After graduation, his enthusiastic personality and willingness to go the extra mile for the companies he worked for enabled him to be successful with UPS, Lowe’s Distribution Center and, most recently, as a Senior Store Manager at Mattress Firm. On Thursday’s you could find Lance on the golf course with his buddies, Mike, Dave, Ray and Terry. Tee time was 0 dark thirty, weather permitting and sometimes even when it wasn’t. Lance loved the Lord with all his heart and tried to live his life in a manner that would be a witness to anyone who knew him. Originally from Arkansas, he loved his Razorbacks but his daughter chose to go to college at A&M so he liked to tell people “his heart was with the Razorbacks but his money was at A&M”! Above all else, Lance’s number one priority was his family, whom he loved beyond all imagining. A devoted husband, loving father, cherished son and adored grandfather, Lance’s legacy of unconditional love will be proudly carried on into future generations by those he treasured. Lance leaves his memory to be forever cherished to his beloved wife, Robin Taylor, of Terrell; children: Lane Taylor, Lakan Metcalf and husband, Bobby, Sara Alford and husband, Nick, Brian Shilling and wife, Heather; parents: Joe and JoAnn Taylor; grandchildren: Kaelyn, Alexa, Luke, Easton, Avery, Annie, Addyson, Allyson, Caleb, Hanna, Brayden and Austin; brother, Brad Taylor and wife Melani; nieces and nephews: Kenzi Russell and husband Dustin, Jaci Tubb and husband Jaden, Zandt Taylor and Zaden Taylor along with several great nieces and nephews; father-in-law, Dr. Billy Martin and wife, Carolyn, as well as many other extended family, a host of friends, all of whom loved him dearly. Funeral service will be at 10:00am, Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Terrell with interment to follow at Oakland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel.
