Leona Oswalt

Leona May Oswalt passed away peacefully, into the presence of her Lord, with loved ones by her side on January 29, 2024. Leona was born in Camden, New Jersey on February 15, 1945 to James Leon and Ethel May Smith, both of whom preceded her in death along with her beloved in-laws, Jesse and Marie Oswalt. Leona's love was a shining beacon of light and hope to all who knew her. From the first time anyone met Leona, her smile would welcome you and the glimmer in her eyes would communicate clearly how much love she had for all; you instantly knew you had a loving, sweet-hearted friend for life. Leona would carefully plan her holiday season with great anticipation of having all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to her home where she would spend countless hours preparing for each person's arrival; Leona would dote on her family every chance she had. She had an equal amount of care for each of her church family members and would be sure to check on them any time she did not get a chance to encourage them on any given Sunday. In Leona's professional career, she started at Southwestern Bell as a mail clerk and worked her way up to being a second line supervisor in her 32 years with them. In her down time, she would love to feed the birds, watch them sing and flit about, she especially enjoyed the cardinals, blue jays and most of all the precious hummingbirds. Leona will be deeply missed by all who know her. Left to carry on Leona's cherished memories are her husband of 60 years, Lynn Oswalt Sr, daughter, Casondra (Casy) Wilburn and husband Mark, daughter, Davina (Jody) Arnold and husband John, and son Lynn Oswalt Jr. and wife Christie. Also left to carry on Leona's love and legacy are her thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren along with friends, all of whom will miss Leona very much. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, February 2, 2024, starting at 1:00 p.m. at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel, in Terrell, Texas. The family will receive friends and guests one hour prior to the service time. The family requests and invites you to wear casual clothing to Leona's services.
