Les Johnson

Leslie ‘Les’ Eugene Johnson passed away peacefully on the evening of June 15, 2026 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on September 5, 1946 in Beaumont, Texas to Norvell and Margie (Smith) Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Larry Johnson and Norvell Dwaine Johnson. Les grew up in Mauriceville and soon after, Dallas, Texas where he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. Shortly after completing school, Les enlisted in the Navy, proudly serving his country. Upon his discharge, Les dedicated himself to a respected career as a skilled tradesman, building a reputation for hard work, dependability, and hands-on expertise. He attended Eastfield College, obtaining his degree and creating his mark in the workforce. Over the years, he applied his talents in several essential fields, including diesel and automotive mechanics, HVAC service and repair, and contracting. Whether diagnosing complex mechanical issues, keeping heating and cooling systems running properly, or completing construction and repair projects, Les took pride in doing the job right and providing work that others could count on. Les knew he met his ‘one’ when he laid eyes on young Mary Cross. The two fell in love immediately and together shared a life of adventures. They were married on August 27, 1969 in Dallas and created a beautiful family based on the foundation of the Lord and the teachings of the love and devotion of Christ. A servant of the Lord, Les loved to teach the word and educated many minds as an assistant pastor. Not only did Les study the Bible, but he also had a passion for education in general. He would spend hours reading, learning, and researching many new ideas and projects, keeping his mind sharp. Les was driven, thoughtful, and put genuine care into everything he did. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend, known for his generosity, steady faith, and willingness to share what he had learned with others. Those who knew him will remember his strength of character, his love for his family, and the example he set through the way he lived. Les is survived by his wife, Mary Johnson; sons: Jeremy Johnson, Joshua (Jessica) Johnson, and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Johnson; daughter, Jacinda (Todd) McGibboney; grandchildren: Micah, Megan, Joshua, Kailey, Landon, Brooklyn, Alainna, Slade, and Honour; great grandchildren: Jaeden, Nevaeh, Creed, Alex, Andrew, and one great grandchild on the way as well as many extended family and a host of friends. Services for Les will be held at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at the Max Slayton Funeral Chapel in Terrell, Texas with an interment to follow at Elmo Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.
