Mamie Nebhut McCasland

Mamie Lee Nebhut McCasland of Terrell passed from this world on Jan. 12, 2026. Mamie was born on Aug. 7, 1937, in Porterville, California to Retha Pyles Nebhut and Henry Carroll Nebhut of Terrell. Mamie was reared in Terrell and grew up as a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a fourth-generation member of the congregation, as her great-grandfather was one of the church’s founders. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Her father was tragically killed in a roadside accident in 1940. She was reared by her mother, who earned a living by operating a business school and providing tax preparation services. Mamie was a 1955 graduate of Terrell High School. In 1959, she married Gerald (Jerry) G. McCasland of Terrell, who was also a graduate of Terrell High School and the University of Texas at Arlington. They moved to Richardson, Texas where they lived while raising their four children. She was a stay-at-home mother while her children attended elementary school. During that time, she operated an in-home printing business. Mamie was active in the community and area political campaigns. She taught her children the values of hard work, commitment, humor and generosity. Later, she worked for Dallas County as Chief Deputy District Clerk. She retired from the county after 20 years of service. Mamie loved nature and enjoyed the family lake house at Terrell Club Lake, where she taught her children to fish and nurtured their love of the outdoors. During frequent family vacations, she taught her children the skills for jeeping across the Rocky Mountains in Ouray and Lake City, Colorado, and throughout New Mexico. She loved riding four wheelers, hot air ballooning and exploring the beauty of the mountains. She and Jerry retired to a farm in Wills Point where she was a member of Russell Memorial United Methodist Church. In her later years, she attended First United Methodist Churches in Terrell and Heath. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, in 2009. They were married for 50 years. She is survived by her three sons, their wives and four grandchildren. Her daughter departed this world into The Lord’s care in 2025.
