Patty Dunn Howie

Patty Ruth Dunn Howie, longtime resident of Terrell, passed away on the morning of December 14, 2019. Patty was born October 26, 1927 in Bradshaw, Texas to Henry Thomas and Tennie (Osborne) Durham. She was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Savior, both her parents, her beloved husband of 26 years, Howard Dunn, her cherished husband of 32 years, Albert Howie, her son-in-law, Jim Tate, siblings: Nelda Durham, Jack Durham, Glynn Durham, and Robert Durham. Patty moved to Terrell at a young age and being one of two girls among three brothers, she learned to not only be a lady but to also make sure she stood her ground. She was a longtime and dedicated employee of American National Bank in Terrell where her smile and her friendly personality were true assets to both the bank staff and customers. Patty’s outlook was that customer service wasn’t just a company mission statement, it needed to be reflection of selfless character and she personified that selflessness. In 1989, she retired from ANB having served her community for decades faithfully and joyfully. Patty was also a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Terrell where she was active in many ministries which highlighted her servant’s heart for others and her Lord. Making sure that fellow church members and visitors were treated to quintessential Southern hospitality making everyone feel welcome and treasured in her signature way! Patty was a devoted mother and grandmother and she loved to get the chance to be see and be a part of the activities they each participated in. A generous spirit with kindness and unconditional love for all, Patty will be missed so much by all who knew her. Patty leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Ann Tate, of Garland, TX; son, Jimmy Dunn and wife, Beverly, of Terrell; grandchildren: Clint Tate and wife, Lesley, of Rockwall, Beth Gans and husband, Mike, of Valrico, FL, Michael Dunn of Terrell, Chad Dunn and wife, Jenna, of Terrell and Laura Badgett and husband, Chance, of Sulphur Springs; great grandchildren: Connor and Katelyn Dunn, Tate and Lizzie Gans, Lane and Will Tate, Grayson and Cooper Badgett as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family, church family and a host of friends who loved her and will miss her dearly. Funeral service for Patty will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Oakland Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Thursday, December 19, 2019, at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations.
