Perry Shields

Perry Eldon Ray Shields of Terrell, TX was born June 11, 1960 in Andrews, Texas. Perry was the youngest and only boy in a family of 3 sisters, Vicky Easterling, Kay Shields and beloved Kim Looper. Born to beloved Gladys Wilkins and Raefael Shields. Early in life, 2nd grade to be exact, Perry and Sherlene found their soul mate in one another, and 44 years later that sentiment holds true. They graduated H. Grady Spruce and began their family with their beautiful daughter Melissa followed by their handsome sons Michael and Christian. The Shields moved their family to the country in 1997, and their little house became their first true home. They've raised amazing, loving, family-centered children who are now raising children of their own. Being parents to their amazing children has been a blessing, and a journey they are so proud to have accomplished together. Perry was a hard-working entrepreneur, always striving to work with not only his hands but his brilliant mind. In 1984, he began his 30+ year career with the Dallas Morning News. He was an independent contractor winning multiple trips, awards and accolades for maintaining the highest sales. He built such an incredible reputation that he was asked to mentor new contractors. During his time with the DMN, he continued his education becoming an ASE Certified Mechanic, which he then utilized to pursue his own automotive shop. Perry had a knack for all things mechanical and was very successful at being the "fix it man." As Perry got older he pursued his CDL and found his final job with NFI Industries, he really enjoyed his job and his coworkers. Even when his lung cancer journey began, he stayed so kind and gracious to each new person he met. It wasn't easy, he walked in thinking the worst and was relieved and shocked when the good news came. He did his best to take it all in stride, educate himself and fight and we are so proud of him. Perry was humble, honest and gave all he had to provide for his family. He will always be known for his head tilted back, loud belly laugh. When he loved you, you knew it. He is irreplaceable, and to know him was to love him. There are no words to describe how much he will be missed, you'll never meet another man like Perry Shields and I look forward to the day he greets us for eternity. Perry is survived by his wife of 44 years Sherlene Shields. Daughter Melissa Shaw and her husband Danny Shaw Jr., son Michael E. R. Shields and his wife Micha Shields, son Christian Shields and daughter Stacy Perley and her husband Dennis Perley. Also left to cherish his memories are his nine grandchildren: Cash Shaw, Macy Shaw, Case Shaw, Addison Shields, Lanie Shields, Bradie "Blue" Shields, Katelynn Yee, Emma Perley and Carson Perley along with siblings Vicky Easterling and Kay Shields and loving extended family. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., on Friday, October 27, 2023 at the Max Slayton Funeral Chapel in Terrell, Texas with an interment to Weaver Cemetery to follow. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26, from 5 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
