Rex Gray

Rex Ellis Gray, Sr., aka “Handsome Rex” and to his seven beloved children, “Daddy” passed away peacefully with family at his side on July 28, 2023. Rex was born on November 26, 1949 to James Forrest and Winnie Rochelle Gray, both of whom preceded him in death along with his brothers: Danny Gray and Steve Gray, sister, Kim Songer, his beloved son, Rex Ellis “Bubba” Gray, Jr and grandson Aaron Wayne Lindsey. Rex grew up in a house full of love and siblings! He had three brothers and three sisters, each of whom he treasured and each of whom helped him to hone his unique sense of humor and fun loving spirit. He married Carolyn Harrell and together they were blessed with four children: Rex, Jr., Sandy, Teresa and Michael Shane. Although Rex and Carolyn’s marriage ended in later years, they both always remained great supporters of each other and the family they created. Rex found love again with Barbara “Susie” Burns and he and Susie welcomed three more children: Regina, Lechrista and Josh, making his family complete. Rex and Susie were devoted to one another and their children and they combined their love, and their families, for a perfect union of over 42 years. Rex was a devoted husband and loving father to his 7 children. He was full of life and full of jokes. He always had a smile on his face and a welcoming hug. He enjoyed listening, singing and dancing to the King of Rock-n-Roll, Elvis Presley, watching wrestling every Friday night, the Dallas Cowboys and was known to enjoy an ice-cold beer in his younger days. He worked as a truck driver for most of his career and he had an amazing talent for driving all the large 18 wheelers. It was well known that Rex could back a trailer in blind folded because he was that good! In 1994, Rex became serious about his relationship with the Lord and he began to devote his life and livelihood to our Heavenly Father. He became a minister and was very proud to serve his God. His faith became a solid foundation which carried Rex through some of his darkest hours, including the loss of his eldest son, Rex, Jr. A man of integrity, honesty and loyalty, Rex will be forever missed by his family and never forgotten by his friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Susie Gray of Wills Point; his children: Sandy Lindsey and husband Richard, of Gun Barrel City, Teresa Altum and husband, Danny of Gun Barrel City, Gina Howard of Wills Point, Lechrista Harrison and husband, Michael, of Wills Point, Michael “Shane” Gray of Gun Barrel City and Joshua Gray of Mabank, TX; 26 grandchildren: Justen, Joseph, Zachary, Jordan, Jon Jon, Christy, Jerot, Dalton, Jackson, Christian, Kirsten, Shannon, Jay, Jaylin, Makayla, Corey, Felisha, Cameron, Reeva, Andrea, Alyssa, Nathaniel, Abigail, Serenity, Kaidence, Laila, Little Josh; numerous great grandchildren; siblings: Bucky Gray of Wills Point, Rose Moorefield and husband Wesley of Scurry, Mary Jane Songer of Waxahachie; former sister in law Tina Ziegler and husband Ron of Wills Point; former son-in-law, Arthur Howard of Wills Point and in laws Vera Johnson and husband Kerry, of Seven Points, Lola Burns of Seven Points as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. Funeral service will be at 11:00am, Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with his family receiving friends 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Monday, July 31, at the funeral home.
