Rodney Spencer

Rodney Lee Spencer passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, in Dallas, Texas. He was born on October 15, 1974, in Waco, Texas. He is preceded in passing by his grandparents and his mother, Shirley Ann Lummus. Rodney, affectionately known as “Hot Rod” by his mother and “Big Rod” by friends and family, graduated from Kaufman High School in 1993, where he was an athlete, excelling in both football and baseball. Known for his humor and larger-than-life personality, Rodney was truly the life of every party. He could make friends out of strangers in minutes, leaving everyone with a smile—and maybe a bellyache from laughing too hard. And when it came to singing, well… let’s just say he sang every note like the whole world was his karaoke stage—bold and proud. Rodney’s heart was as big as Texas. He was the type of man who would give you the shirt off his back. His friends were countless, and his loyalty to them was unwavering, always going the extra mile to support those he cared about. One of his biggest joys, was being called “Uncle Rodney” by all his beloved nieces and nephews who treasured the moments they had with him. He was also “Great” Uncle Rodney, to his 9 great nieces and nephews who he taught how to play poker and dominoes. They adored him and created a bond like no other. A big-time sports fan, Rodney cheered passionately for the Dallas Stars, Mavericks, Longhorns, and the Texas Rangers, but his heart belonged to the Dallas Cowboys. Sundays were sacred, filled with spirited commentary and an unshakable belief that *this* was their year. Rodney was a huge supporter for all his Texas teams (well, all except the Aggies)! His love for the restaurant business began early when he took his first job as a busboy at Culpeppers, where his mother worked. This spark of passion grew into a lifelong career, managing numerous restaurants and eventually owning his own beloved pizzeria, Big Rod’s Pizzeria. It was a place as warm and welcoming as Rodney himself. A master in the kitchen, Rodney was as talented with a spatula as he was with a punchline, whipping up meals that were as memorable as his jokes. Quick-witted, sharp, and undeniably charming, Rodney had a knack for leaving lasting impressions, especially on the ladies—he was always a bit of a charmer. In his downtime, he indulged in collecting trading cards of all kinds, a hobby that reflected his playful spirit and a love for nostalgia. Additionally, Rodney had a talent for cornhole, excelling in the game to the point of competing in tournaments and being an active member of a league. Rodney leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and larger-than-life memories. He lived with a full heart, a hearty laugh, and a zest for life that will never be forgotten. Rodney is survived by his beloved sisters: Sebrina Guerra (Miguel), Deanna Olivarez (Daryl), Danielle Miller (Jonathan); brother, Rodney Richman (Lexie); nephews: Daylon Olivarez (Courtney), Jordan Guerra, Miguel Guerra Jr., and Aidan Richman; nieces: Macey Cosper (David), Maegan Mojica (Joseph), Kirstie Guerra, and Destiny Guerra, Addison Richman, and Jordan Miller. Also surviving Rodney are his nine great nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and many friends whom will all miss him dearly. Services for Rodney will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Victory Church in Scurry, Texas. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.
