Velma "Deen" Hood

Velma “Deen” Hood passed away September 24, 2022 in Wills Point. Born February 9, 1927 in Perrin, Texas to John Mitchell and Mamie Elizabeth Smith Hill and she was met in Heaven by her parents, her husband, Bobbie Joe Hood, sister Mary Leeta McCully, brother Curtis Ray Hill and great grandson, Jeremiah David Trosper. Deen graduated Claude High School and on May 26, 1946, she married the love of her life Bobbie Joe Hood and together they had a life filled with love and family. She and Bobbie Joe moved to South Dakota to begin ranching and they truly enjoyed raising their family in a beautiful setting. Deen loved sewing and providing a great home life. She would make patterns from newspaper and sew many articles of clothing for her loved ones. Her simple, yet beautiful handmade creations became treasured mementos to her family. In her spare time, Deen would cook favorite dishes for her family which they loved so much. In her lifetime, she worked on a ranch in South Dakota, owned a gas station and grocery store in Claude and a surplus store in Amarillo with her husband. She worked at Armstrong County Abstract office in Claude and White and Kirks department store in Amarillo. Her friendly personality and sunny smile made every customer feel just like family and she made sure to brighten every traveler’s day. She played piano and sang with a happy voice as she worshipped her Lord. A loving wife, devoted mother and fun loving grandmother and great grandmother, Deen will be greatly missed and never forgotten. She is survived by her son Joe Max Hood and wife Beth of Terrell; daughter Vicki Lynn Trosper and her husband Ron of Terrell; grandchildren: Dionne Moore, Debi Forester and her husband John, Joanna Rodriguez and her husband Daniel, Scott Trosper and his wife Michelle, Tronda Falck and husband Chad, and Kari Downs and her husband Mike. Great grandchildren: Tyler Moore, Grace Moore, Ethan Forester, Callen Forester, Bethany Vasquez, Melayna Sepulveda, Jaden Falck, Caleb Downs and Kellie Freeman; great great grandchildren: Zoey Trosper, Tommy Trosper, Little Angel Vasquez, Estella Vasquez, Whiatte Freeman and Sawyer Freeman as well as other extended family and many friends that will continue to treasure her memory. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 8, 2022 at Perrin Cemetery in Perrin, Texas. Family will receive friends at 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday October 3, 2022 at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to the Perrin Cemetery Association.
