Wanda Gilbreath

Wanda Faye Gilbreath went home to her Lord and Savior April 9th, 2024. She passed in the comfort her home in Terrell, TX. She rejoins her sweetheart, whom she has missed dearly since 2021. She was born June 13th, 1955, in Sherman, TX to George Fletcher and Hazel Faye Powell. As the daughter of devout farmers, Wanda was no stranger to hard work accompanied by a strong faith in Jesus. After Graduating from high school in Floydada, TX, she married the love of her life, Gary Don Gilbreath, in South Plains, TX on July 7th, 1973. She and Gary moved to Terell, TX 38 years ago where they became members of Emmanual Baptist Church. Wanda spent her life doing what she loved most in this world; taking care of her family. She was “Mom” to not only her three boys, but to all their friends as well! She had a huge heart for children. After her own boys were grown, she poured out her overabundance of love by helping raise many more nieces, nephews, friends and grandchildren, all of which affectionately called her “Nanna”. Make no mistake about it, if you knew Wanda for any amount of time, you were family to her. This did not come out of some obligation but because of who she was. She was always the first to offer help or cook for those that were hungry, even if she did not have very much herself. Her Legacy will be that she loved deeply, and that she always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold felt safe, healthy, & loved. Wanda is proceeded in death by her loving husband, Gary Gilbreath; parents, Fletcher & Hazel Powell; father & mother-in-law, Bill & Estelle Gilbreath; brothers George & Johnny Powell; and sister Diane Hill. Survivors include Jeffrey Gilbreath & wife, Jennifer, of Forney; Jeremy Gilbreath of Terrell; Jared Gilbreath & wife, Sherry, of Terrell. Brother, Kenneth (Sondra) Powell, of Broken Arrow, OK; Sisters, Linda Turner, of Pikesville, NC; Shirley (Danny) Emert of San Antonio, TX; Glenna Powell of Terrell; & Pam (Eli) Enriquez of Italy, TX; 6 Grandchildren; & 13.5 great-grandchildren; as well as countless nieces, nephews, & friends. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have felt her warm embrace and be welcomed in by her infectious smile.
