December 26, 1930 - March 10, 2021
Charles Edward Morgan, of Terrell, passed away into the presence of his Lord and Savior on March 10, 2021 at his home with family at his side. Charles was born December 26, 1930 in Lufkin, TX to James Tippord and Ethel Mae (Crawford) Morgan, both of whom met him in Heaven along with sister, Myrtle Nash and brother, James Morgan. Charles grew up in Lufkin and graduated from Lufkin High School. He then enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany where he served proudly and honorably. After his enlistment ended, Charles returned home to attend business college and worked for East Texas Freight until his retirement from the freight industry. In 1956, he began working for Sherwin-Williams Paint Store in Terrell and was a dedicated and loyal employee for over 32 years. His incredible knowledge of how to effectively mix and match colors using additive, subtractive and optical light made every customer confident in their decorating choices. Whether it was a swatch of cloth needing a match or a paint chip no bigger than a thumbnail, Charles was able to effectively match the color needed ensuring the success of every project for every customer-and this was BEFORE computers! He was well known for his ability to resolve color and design challenges for every customer, and he accomplished all of this with a smile and great attitude to set the bar high for customer service. Folks walked in the store on Moore Ave (now located on Rockwall Ave) overwhelmed and a little fearful but after visiting with Charles, they had new knowledge that helped them feel confident with their new paint. Charles loved people and after retiring (again) from Sherwin-Williams, he worked with Ter-Jan Carpet for several years until finally deciding to stay at home and be a devoted grandfather to the newest generations of his wonderfully growing family. He and Shirley were faithful members of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Terrell where they had many wonderful friends who were just like family. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, Charles will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Charles is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Shirley Morgan, of Terrell; children: Linda Morgan of Sachse, Don Morgan and wife, Phyllis, of Melissa, and Rhonda Davis of Terrell; grandchildren: Lindsey Brooks, Eric Snyder, Jorie Millerborg, Casey Millerborg, Ashley Jackson, and husband, Richard, Courtney Horton, and husband, Chris, and Brittany Morgan; great grandchildren: Jaylen, Hallei, Jett, Jada, Richard III, Harleigh, Gage, Addison, Madisyn and Kasyn; sister, Patricia Foster as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends, all of whom loved Charles dearly. Funeral service will be at 1:00pm, Monday, March 15, 2021 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Oakland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 2:00pm to 4:00pm, Sunday, March 14, at the funeral home. In lieu of flower, memorials in honor of Charles may be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Building Fund, 1717 N. Frances, Terrell, 75160.
