November 29, 1934 - January 11, 2022
Dottie Mae Ferris, formerly of Terrell, passed away peacefully on Jan. 11, 2022 in Southlake, TX, Dottie was born on November 29, 1934 in Edgewood, TX to Herman Floyd and Gladis Rohus. She was gladly welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Savior, her parents and her beloved husband, Rev. Aaron “Jack” Ferris, her son-in-law, David Hamm and her siblings: Faye Barnes, Rita Stephens, Jay Rohus, Brinda Shifflett and husband, Delton. Dottie grew up in Edgewood and Wills Point and attended school at Wills Point High School. On Nov. 29, 1951, (also her birthday) she married Rev. Aaron Anthony “Jack” Ferris and their love for each other was only exceeded by their love for the Lord. Dottie was a devoted wife and committed pastor’s wife helping her husband show others the light of Christ while raising their two children in a home filled with love and laughter. While living in Terrell, she helped Jack with the establishment of Faith Temple Assembly of God. In the summer of 1970, they were called to serve in Kermit, Texas where Jack pastored the First Assembly of God Church for over 17 years. Dottie was very active serving in the WMC, leading worship through music, teaching Sunday School along with many other leadership roles in the church and the community. She then moved back with Jack to Terrell serving again at Faith Temple which had been renamed as Christian Life Center. Her dedication to God, her family and the people she served was always evident when anyone met Dottie, right after they noticed her bright and welcoming smile! In her spare time, Dottie enjoyed cooking, ceramics, cake decorating, reading, singing, and watching the Hallmark channel. Dottie loved the Dallas Cowboys and was possibly their biggest fan. In 2017, Dottie moved to the Tarrant County area to be closer to her daughter, Sheree, after the passing of Sheree’s husband. It was a blessing that allowed Dottie to spend more time with her grandchildren, and she truly enjoyed getting together with them and the rest of the family making treasured memories that will always be cherished. Dottie’s personality was the same happy and joy-filled personality and she met, and made, many friends in her new community settling right in and serving as Jesus called her to do her whole life. A sparkling and lively lady, Dottie will be missed by the many people whose lives she touched. Dottie is survived by her son, Steve Ferris; her daughter, Sheree Hamm; grandchildren: Brooke Ferris, Ashley Kenner and husband, Brian, and Lundyn Ferris; great grandchildren: Alison Harris and Joselyn Ferris; sisters: Linda Ussery and husband, Richard, Ruth Savage and husband, Sammy; brother-in-law, Ken Stephens; sister-in-law, Linda Rohus as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00pm to service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Teen Challenge at www.teenchallengetx.org, Kirstie Hunsley.
