April 16, 1933 - January 27, 2018
Imogene (Jean) Ratliff McGinness, 84, went to be with the Lord on January 27, 2018. Visitation will be at 9:00 am on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, with the funeral to follow at 10:00 am at Max Slayton Funeral and Cremations with Rev. Buddy Sadler and Rev. James Daughtery officiating. Jean was born in Strawberry, Arkansas on April 16, 1933. She was married to Billy (Bill) King McGinness on September 14, 1953. Bill passed away on November 22, 2010 after 57 years of marriage. Bill was the love of her life. They traveled extensively during their life together making many lifelong friends along the way. Jean worked in various professions during her life. She worked as a butcher, a bank teller, a hair stylist, and was in property management in Greenville, Texas until her retirement. Jean loved her Lord and Savior. She was a faithful member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Terrell. She loved working with children so it was natural that she taught Sunbeams for many years. She became the State Sunbeam Promoter for the Baptist Missionary Association of Texas and held that position for several years. She was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Auxiliary and enjoyed studying the word of God with her fellow sisters in Christ. Jean was loved by her brothers and sisters, her nieces and nephews, and her extended family. She enjoyed family coming to visit, just like her father, Carnie, always did. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents, Carnie and Myrtle Ratliff, Sr.; brother, Roland Ratliff; sisters, Vera Ratliff and Ruth Gardner Lee, brothers-in-law, John Gardner, Roy Lee, L.B. Coke, and Bogard McGinness; and sisters-in-law, Virginia Ratliff, Mary McGinness, and Jackie Holiday. She is survived by her sister, Freedia Coke of Greenville, and brothers, John (Sue) Ratliff of Conway, Arkansas, and Wes (Clara) Ratliff of Abilene, Texas; extended family, Donna Peters, Karen Werner, Trish Scimers, and Bud Harper, all of Kansas; many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; and by numerous other relatives and friends.
