Jane Shields

Jane Shields, beloved mother, Nannie, sister, Aunt Mama and friend, passed away into the presence of her Savior on the morning of July 26, 2018 with her family at her side. She was reunited in Heaven with her husband, Jimmy B. Shields and her grandchildren Joshua Blair and Stephanie Gordon and her parents, Jesse and Clara Jones. Jane was born July 22, 1936 in Quinlan, Texas and she graduated Quinlan High School in 1954. Jane loved children and she was a trusted day care provider for over 35 years. Many of the kids considered her to be just like their own “Mom” in that she cared for each child as if they were her own and the love she showed to each of them is still fondly remembered by so many that Jane felt privileged to care for. Jane had a talent for cooking and her home-made dishes for family, friends, visitors and church gatherings were the dishes most looked forward to! She was an active and faithful member of Hilltop Church where she loved worshiping Christ. Jane was the embodiment of a Proverbs 31 woman and her personality reflected the Holy Spirit. Her ever-present encouragement to others was a hallmark of every conversation and collaboration. She loved Jesus, her family and her church family and her servant’s heart for others enabled her to always be counted on to meet any need, be it big or small. Her ability to liven up a get-together and make every gathering memorable was truly remarkable. The glue that held everyone together, Jane’s unconditional love, support and inspiration that she gave so freely to all who knew her will be a treasured legacy that will continue forward in every life she touched. Jane is survived by her beloved children: David Shields and wife, Dorothea, Craig Shields, Jeff Shields and wife, Melanie, and Michele Rand and husband, Richard; devoted grandchildren: Brian and Katrina Shields, Jennifer and James Reed, Ashleigh and Richard Patterson, Kendall and Eryka Shields, Jessica Shields, Robyn and Daniel Elam, Katie and Kyle Fonville, Amy and Andrew Whitehouse, Morgan and Chelsea Shields, McKenzie Shields, Heather Maxey, Jason Maxey, Laura Shields, Carlee Rand and C.J. Rand; her 28 precious great grandchildren and 1 cherished great-great grandchild; treasured sister, Carolyn Sorter and husband, Buzz; nieces: Lori Sorter, Lisa Melone and husband, David, as well as other extended family and a host of friends who loved her and will all miss her dearly. Funeral services will be 10:00am, Monday, July 30, 2018 at CareCenter Ministries Hilltop Church, 7912 Antoinette St., Dallas, TX, 75217 with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in Terrell. The family will receive friends 6-8pm, Sunday, July 29, 2018, at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations.
