Janet Whatley

Janet Whitaker Whatley, loving mother, Meme, sister and friend passed away peacefully Sept. 1, 2018 with her family by her side. She was reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband Jimmy Don Whatley as well many other family members and friends, all of whom welcomed her to her heavenly home. Janet was born Oct. 29, 1942 in Canton, TX to Ernest Glen Whitaker and Rose Edwards Whitaker. Growing up, she attended the First Baptist Church in Canton, TX and was born again December 6, 1953 when she accepted Christ into her heart. Janet attended Canton schools and graduated May 1961. She married the love of her life Jimmy Don Whatley on September 29, 1961 and they lived in Grand Saline for a short time. After the birth of their precious daughter, Julie, they moved to Terrell where they made their home filling it with love, laughter and memories. Janet worked for Terrell ISD for 32 years until her retirement in August of 2002. Her vivacious and generous personality enabled her to make many wonderful friends with students, teachers and colleagues as well as touch many lives. She was always willing to help anyone with anything and her sweet spirit will be treasured by all. Janet was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Terrell. She loved her family and her church family. She had such a gift of making everyone feel loved because she loved so easily. She was a true blessing to everyone she knew and will be missed greatly. Janet leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Julie Sewell; grandson, Clint Davis; granddaughter, Katelyn Sewell; her precious furbaby, Bre; brother and sister in law, Harmel and Lucy Whitaker of Plano; sister and brother in law, Hazel and Bob Pennington of Canton; sister in law and brother in law, Kathleen and Johnny Thompson of Grand Saline as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. Funeral service for Janet Whatley will be 11:30 am Saturday September 8, 2018 at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:30 am Saturday, September 8, an hour and a half prior to service at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations. Private interment will be at Haven of Memories in Canton.
