    Jean Melton

    October 3, 1932 - November 1, 2021

Jean Melton, formerly of Terrell, passed away on November 1, 2021 in Kemp, Texas with family at her side. Jean was born October 3, 1932 to Ocie and Etta Mae (Haney) Wilson, both of whom preceded her in death along with her sister, Margaret Shick and four brothers: Jack, Ocie Roy, Paul and Harold Wilson. Jean moved to Terrell in 1950 where she was immediately welcomed into this small, but close, community. She worked for Terrell State Hospital for many years as a receptionist helping the hospital staff and resident families by ensuring that every detail was attended to until her retirement in 1994. She loved spending time in the outdoors fishing and gardening and enjoying the beauty of being outside. She was also very adept at sewing and crocheting and her family has many gifts that Jean made especially just for them. Later in her life, Jean discovered that being a grandmother was the best job ever and she made sure to spend all the time she could playing with her precious grandkids and, later, great grandkids, all of whom kept her active and enjoying life to the fullest every day. Jean had a bright smile that could light up every room and she loved to laugh while visiting with those she loved most. A beautiful lady with old-fashioned Southern charm, Jean will be very missed but always remembered. She leaves countless memories filled with love and fun to her children: Nelda Martin and husband, Steve, Wendell Melton and wife, Talonda, Becky Donaldson and husband, Kevin; grandchildren: Kevin Martin, Carol Hancock and husband Robert, Brady Melton and wife, Jennifer, Deanna Donaldson and Preston Salyer; great grandchildren: Taylor Strange, Peyton Strange, Riley Martin, Rob Hancock, Jaxson Salyer, Layla Salyer, Wyatt Stowe, Trevor Stowe, Grayson Finch and Kennedy Stowe; sister, Wanda Bennett; brothers, Butch Wilson and wife, Lou, and James Wilson and wife, Shirley as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and so many friends, near and far. Funeral service will be at 1:00pm, Friday, November 5, 2021 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Gardens. Her family will receive friends beginning at 11:00am to service time.
