John Wayne Dodson

May 31, 1937 - January 20, 2022

John Wayne Dodson, beloved father and grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully on Jan. 20, 2022. John was born May 31, 1937 in Eskota, TX to Robert and Louise (Ditto) Dodson. He was joyfully welcomed into Heaven by his parents, his daughter, Tammy Cargle. John was also reunited with his beloved wife, Mary, who passed away on Jan 6, 2020. John moved to the Elmo community at a young age where he grew up and attended Elmo schools. He worked for TxDOT with highway maintenance and repair for many years where his work ethic and commitment to doing the projects correctly and timely guaranteed him the respect of his coworker and supervisors. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Mary, and where one was, the other was close behind. John loved to hunt and fish whenever he had the chance. Many of the fish he caught were sure to be brought home for Mary to fry up or make into a family meal shared by all at the table. He was an accomplished guitarist and loved to play bluegrass and gospel, entertaining his family and friends over the years with uplifting songs and fun sing-a-longs. A quiet man with a gentle heart, John will be greatly missed by his family and never forgotten. He is survived by sons: Bobby Dodson and wife, Donna, of Elmo and James Dodson of Elmo; grandchildren: Katie Dodson, Ashley Goodrich and husband, Cody, Jill Zych and husband Garry, Jamey Dodson, Julie Dodson, J.W. Cargle, Sarah Cargle, Alan Delaney and Michael Delaney; great grandchildren: Makenzie Williams and Ty Goodrich as well as other extended family, church family and many lifelong friends. Funeral service will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022 at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1550 Co. Rd. 303, Terrell, Tx. 75160, with interment to follow at Elmo Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations.
