    Kay Bryant Martin

    November 6, 1954 - December 28, 2021

Kay Bryant Martin, 67, a lifelong Terrell resident, passed away on December 28, 2021 surrounded by those who loved her. Born November 6, 1954, to the late Doris Jean Brennan and David Bryant of Terrell, Kay graduated from Terrell High School in 1973. She went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree in social work from East Texas State University in Commerce. Kay committed her personal and professional life to the service of others. After helping start the Methodist Day School at First United Methodist Church of Terrell and serving as the school’s director and teacher she went on to train at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children where she became a dyslexia specialist. For many years she tutored students with learning disabilities out of her home. Kay then pursued her passion for working with the elderly working for Kaufman County Senior Citizens Services and then later to senior living and finally working in hospice. For more than 15 years she facilitated the Kaufman County Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group, a past president of the Terrell Pilot Club and a Senior Connect & Meals on Wheels Volunteer. She attended First Baptist Church of Terrell where she was active in the Stephen Ministries. Kay will be remembered for her service and compassion for others, her love for family and dear friends, and for being an all-around amazing “K-Mom” to those who knew and loved her. Preceded in death by both her parents, left to cherish her memory is her son, Bryant Martin and Courtney Godwin Martin of Kaufman; sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Terry Michlitsch of Mills River, North Carolina; Nieces, Lauren and James Amicone of Kansas City, Missouri and Haley Michlitsch of El Paso, Texas; along with a host of other family members, friends, coworkers, and colleagues. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 31, 2021, at 2 PM at the First Baptist Church of Terrell. Family will receive friends beginning at 1 PM until service time. Interment will follow at Elmo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Senior Connect & Meals on Wheels of Kaufman County, P O Box 1225, Kaufman, Texas 75142 or at nohungrysenior.org.
