April 8, 1940 - May 17, 2021
Mr. Larry Gary, of Terrell, passed away peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on the afternoon of May 17, 2021. Larry was born April 8, 1940 in Vernon, TX to Horace, Sr. and Beatrice Gary, both of whom greeted him in Heaven along with his son in law, Christopher Maize, sisters: Mildred, Dorothy, Louise, and Patsy; brothers: Horace, Jr., James and Clive. He graduated from North Hopkins High School in 1960 after which he earned his bachelor’s degree from East Texas State University (now Texas A&M Commerce). For over 20 years, he worked at Terrell State Hospital and Lakes Regional as an accountant where Larry’s attention to financial details was a welcome addition to the staff and facilities. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Martha Cole, on October 27, 1963 at Western Park Baptist Church in Dallas, TX and together they had a wonderful life while raising their two daughters, Wendy and Lari. Larry was involved in the Gideons International Organization beginning in 1984 and was a past member of Grace Temple Baptist Church in Terrell. He also loved being a "bell ringer" with the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Christmas Campaign every holiday season and the joy of the season and sharing the hope of Christ's birth radiated in Larry's smile every Christmas. He was a current member, and deacon, at First Baptist Church in Terrell where he and Martha both actively and faithfully served the Lord and others. Many members and visitors were greeted by his friendly smile upon entering the church’s doors over the years and Larry always made sure to embody the love of Jesus to all he met. In his spare time, he enjoyed learning and researching any thing regarding WWII history, watching Jeopardy episodes and Hallmark movies. Larry also had an interest for learning about any latest technological gadget and he thoroughly loved seeing how technology evolved and changed so quickly. A wonderful man who followed the Lord in every aspect of his life, Larry will be missed all who knew him and loved him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Martha Gary, of Terrell; daughters: Wendy Belton of Terrell and Lari Maize of Glennallen, Alaska; grandchildren Rusty and Junior; brother-in-law, Eddie Nethery as well as other extended family, church family and many friends, all of whom will always remember Larry. A Celebration of his life will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel. Family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, 403 N. Catherine Terrell. Tx. 75160 or Gideon International, P.O. Box 323 Terrell, Tx. 75160.
