    Lelan Coltharp

    November 9, 1946 - March 19, 2022

Lelan Wayne Coltharp “Junior”, longtime resident of Terrell, Texas passed away surrounded by his family at home on Saturday afternoon, March 19, 2022. Lelan was born in Sherman, Texas on November 9, 1946 to Lelan Maurice Coltharp and Francis Weber Coltharp. He graduated from Terrell High School in 1964 and attended college at Henderson County Community College in Athens, Texas where he met his love, Lois Ann Perkins. They married April 1, 1967; together they raised three boys: Jack, Brian and Clay. After the death of his father, Lelan picked up the reins of his parent’s business Lawrence Building Materials as a young adult. Lelan worked his business for over 50 years gaining a reputation for being a man of integrity and true to his word. Lawrence Building Materials was truly a family business as you could find Lois working in the office and their boys all spent time after school and summers working at the lumber yard. Lelan taught them the value of working hard, strong work ethic and what it takes to run a business and provide customer service. Lelan enjoyed his free time in the great outdoors. Depending on the season, on a beautiful day, you could find him at his favorite fishing hole on Lake Tawakoni, shooting skeet with buddies, or hunting with family and friends. He loved it when his boys or any of his grandchildren would join in all the activities he enjoyed so much. His legacy and memory will be carried on by all that knew him and he is survived by his wife Lois Coltharp; his three children: Jack Coltharp and wife, Darla, of Forney, TX; Brian Coltharp and his wife, April, of Ft Worth, TX; Clay Coltharp and his wife, Ashlan, of Terrell, TX; grandchildren: Chayce Coltharp, Travis Coltharp, Sam Coltharp, Kally Jaeckle, Emma Coltharp, Sara Coltharp, Avery Coltharp and Cade Coltharp as well as extended family and friends. A celebration of his life is being planned for 2:00pm, Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel. His family will have a gathering of remembrance 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, March 25, at the funeral home. For those wishing to honor Lelan, memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at www.lls.org or Relay for Life of Kaufman County, on the Kaufman County Page at https://secure.acsevents.org/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFLCY22SOR?pg=entry&fr_id=103268
