October 11, 1937 - September 20, 2019
Marie Howell Hass, beloved wife, mother, Memaw, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully into the presence of her Savior on the morning of September 20, 2019 with her family at her side. She was born October 11, 1937 in Cumby, TX to George W. and Corene Wells Howell. She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, her brothers: Raymond, Thomas, Rio and Kenneth Howell and grandsons, Casey Babovec and Damien Harriel. Marie graduated from Royse City HS in 1955. In that same year, she married the man who was the light of her life, Richard Hass on May 14, 1955 in Durant, OK and together, they made good on their vow to love, honor and cherish each other. After marrying, they moved to Farmersville and then finally to Terrell in 1960 where they began their family. Marie and Richard raised, bred and sold Charolais Cattle for Hunt Ranches which enabled them to make many friends and travel all over the country. A true Southern Maid who had a knack for entertaining and making everyone feel “right at home”, Marie was always known for looking and being at her very best. Her ability to make everyone feel like they had known her for years was a special gift of Marie’s that made instant friends out of folks she had just met. Marie also had a wonderful talent of making sure that Richard and their children realized that they always had a home base filled with love, support and fun. Spending time with family was time that Marie truly treasured and her favorite pastime was to gather her grandchildren and great grandchildren and spoil them as only their Memaw could! Marie loved to serve the Lord and she was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Terrell. She also enjoyed fishing and gardening and whatever she chose to grow always thrived under her care. Her charming personality and her beautiful smile and spirit was always a welcome sight to every gathering and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Marie’s legacy will be treasured always by her husband of over 64 years, Richard Hass, of Terrell; children: Richard Glenn Hass and wife, Machele, of Seymour, TX, Jeff Hass and wife, Suzy, of Terrell, Janice Marie Hass of Little Rock, AR, Robin Cruz and husband, Rudy, of Kaufman; grandchildren: Heather Bourland and husband, Bo, Candice Hager and husband, Jeremy, Shanda Whitworth, Jennifer Woodall and husband, Matt, Clayton Hass and wife, Alex, Tiffany Wood, Amanda Hass, Cody Hass, Kellie Coffey and husband, Ryan, and Cheyenne Babovec; great grandchildren: Levi, Lani, Makayla, Garrett, Colby, Tanner, Maddie, Macie, Addy, Mac, Izzy, Alexus, Addison, Ryder, and Callyn and her beloved dog, Dandy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 24th, 2019, at First Baptist Church of Terrell with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends Monday, September 23, from 5-8 p.m. at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations.
