January 5, 1976 - October 21, 2019
Melanie Ann (Freeman) Perez passed away on October 21, 2019, losing her long and faithful battle. She was born in Dallas, Texas on January 5, 1976 to David and Janis (Mitchell) Freeman. Melanie was embraced in Heaven by her grandparents, A.O. and Priscilla Freeman and Bob and Marie Mitchell. Melanie was raised in Kaufman, Texas with her two siblings, Marisa and Bret. After graduating high school, she went on to attend Collin County Community College earning her Associates Degree in Physical Therapy. Her career began at Doctor’s Hospital in Dallas as a physical therapy assistant before she would accept a job back in her hometown at Kaufman Presbyterian Hospital and work for six years. As a physical therapy assistant, she was loved by all her patients for being a compassionate and caring therapist who was always eager to help and encourage them. From an early age Mel was extremely active in a variety of sports; basketball being her favorite. Some of her teammates that were by her side and encouraging her then would continue to encourage her through all the trials she faced. Melanie had two amazing daughters and one of her favorite activities was watching any sport in which they were involved. The pride she had for her two daughters, Ashlee and Alexis was never absent. She was an incredible mother and loved her girls more than anything. Melanie loved all sports; her favorite teams being the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Cowboys. Every year Melanie and her girls, sometimes with other family or friends accompanying them, would make a trip to the beach. Anywhere with sun, sand and waves made her happy. Melanie attended Community Life Church in Kaufman. Her church family was one of her biggest support systems through her battle. To all that knew her, Melanie embodied relentless faith, steadfast courage, and the importance of "always having your chapstick." Those left to remember her legacy are her two beautiful daughters, Ashlee and Alexis Perez; father, David Freeman and wife Sandy; mother, Janis Freeman; siblings, Marisa Olivarez and husband Mark, Bret Freeman and wife, Kelly; nieces and nephews: Nathan Olivarez and wife Sarah, Blake Freeman and wife Jessica, Namon Olivarez, Natalee Altom and husband Gil, and Joshua, Jacob and Luke Freeman; great nephew, Russell Olivarez; Aunts and uncles: Linda and Ed Perrin, Charlotte and Steve Chaney, David and Billie Ann Mitchell, Judy Ellis, Scotty and Tami Mitchell, and Tracy Mitchell as well as many cousins, extended family, church family, and countless friends that will remember her always. Services for Melanie will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 at CLife Church, 2918 U.S. 175, Kaufman, TX US 75142 with interment to follow at Wilson Chapel Cemetery in Kaufman. The family will receive friends for visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday October 24, 2019 at CLife Church. Melanie's family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to a benefit account set up specifically for Ashlee and Alexis Perez at American National Bank.
