Nettie Alice Freeman passed away Sept 10, 2019. A Celebration of Nettie’s life will be at 11:00am, Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church in Terrell with family receiving friends beginning at 10:00am to service time. All are invited to share the wonderful stories and memories of Nettie. Nettie was born in Brownington, Missouri on Dec. 3, 1923 to Ralph Folk Hardy and Ora V. Hardy. Nettie grew up in Paola, Kansas where she was a member of the school choir and played the French horn in the high school orchestra. After graduation, Nettie attended Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas. There she worked for the music professor continuing her love of music. Nettie married her high school sweetheart, James Harry Freeman, on May 13, 1945. Harry served in the Navy as a flight instructor in Corpus Christi. After leaving the service, the couple returned to Paola, Kansas where they lived the next 17 years. During that time, they welcomed son, Bruce and daughter, Carol into their lives. They later moved to Navasota, Texas where they owned a Tastee Freeze and Nettie worked alongside of Harry. They moved to Tyler, Arkansas City, Kansas and to Terrell where Nettie was active in the Presbyterian Church serving as secretary, choir member and Ruling Elder along the way. Nettie and Harry enjoyed retirement in Terrell and 62 years of marriage. After Harry’s passing, Nettie lived in Edgewood and her last few years in Winnsboro to be closer to Carol. Nettie loved music and writing. Though working outside the home all her years, she managed writing a play with music and developing copyrighted items. As all who knew her, you knew how much she loved and used her IBM Selectric typewriter. Her lengthy letters and newspaper clippings will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 834 Griffith Ave., Terrell, 75160.
