    Mrs. Ollie Smith

    June 28, 1920 - June 5, 2019

Mrs. Ollie Smith, 98, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 5, 2019. She was born June 28, 1920 in the Cedarvale Community of Kaufman County, Texas to Wylie and Cassie (Barfield) Archer. Ollie was joyfully reunited in Heaven with so many loved ones who had passed before her including her parents, her beloved husband, James Alfred Smith, daughter, Lola Marie Daniel, two brothers and two sisters as well as her special and best friend, Henrietta Riley. Ollie was a wonderful woman with a caring heart shaped by her growing up in the Church of Christ. Her overflowing compassion led her to opportunities in being a nurse’s aide at Terrell State Hospital, Colonial Hospital and Alexander Hospital where she was invaluable to the other medical staff. During this time, she became a familiar face to most of Terrell and so it was easy to serve in a different setting when she opened her own restaurant, Ollie’s Country Kitchen, here in Terrell. Anyone coming into her restaurant got a home cooked meal and an angelic smile! She was a hard worker who had a knack for hospitality and great cooking. Ollie perfected her signature recipes for fried chicken and chicken and dressing-recipes that had folks turn into loyal customers from all over the North and East Texas counties. Her simple wish for folks to leave happy and full made everyone feel welcome whether it was at her restaurant or her home. She was a true Southern lady who valued her Lord, her family and her friends and she will be missed by all who knew her. Ollie leaves to treasure her memory her daughters: Margie Gwin Stephens and husband, Ardith, of Terrell and Alphie Hughes of Terrell; sisters: Willie Chandler, Burrell Fincher, and Maxine Hart; grandchildren: Terry Stephens, Gary Stephens, Kathy Marie Cline, Johnny Bailey, Scott Bailey, Tony Hughes, and Don Hughes; 12 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren and special niece and nephew, Doug and Carol Smith, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. Funeral service for Ollie will be at 1:00pm, Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8pm, Friday, June 7, 2019 at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations.
