    Peggy Black

    November 15, 1936 - January 3, 2022

Peggy Martin Black, lovingly known as "Nanny" to so many who adored her, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2022. She was born in Terrell, TX on November 15, 1936 to W.C. Martin and Fairy Eldis Martin, both of whom preceded her in death along with her husband Wayne Black, Sr, brothers: Royce Dean Martin, Steve Martin, Randall Martin; sister, Betty Martin and great grandson, Kaisen Lyle Sparks along with several other close family members and friends. While her family greatly grieves, they are comforted with the knowledge that Peggy was swept up in a great big hug by all who have gone before her to Heaven! Peggy was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother to her beloved family as well as a treasured friend to so many others. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Forney where she was very active for many years in several ministries and outreach groups. Her sense of humor and bright smile helped every visitor, and member, to church gatherings feel right at home. Peggy resided in Forney her entire life and was a firsthand witness to how a little farm town grew to a thriving city. Throughout her life, she continued to embody the basic values like honesty, integrity and service to others which she willingly passed down to her sons, each of whom carry the same traits in their daily lives. She was devoted to the family business, Wayne Black Plumbing, and her dedication to seeing her husband’s and, subsequently, her sons’, success was easily seen by the community and the customers they served. Peggy was loved by so many for her kind and giving heart, and she never met a stranger. She had an innate ability to always see the best in everyone she met and she made sure to show the light and love of Christ to all whose lives she touched. A true Southern lady who had grace, beauty, charm and endless hospitality, Peggy will be greatly missed but never forgotten. She is survived by her sons: Wayne Black, Jr. and wife, Karen, James Black, Gene Black and wife, Elaine, Jerry Black and wife, Felicia; grandchildren: Keesha Black, Jeffrey Black & Jennifer, Brandie Koonce & Derek, Brittanie Waller & JW, Jerry Michael Black, Jordan Black & Taylor, Matt Black, Chelsie Black, Haylie Durflinger & Brent, and Blaine Mosley; brother, Jerry Dennis Martin and sister Fairy Jo "Jodie" Loftis. She was also blessed with, and survived by, 10 great grandchildren and was expecting her first great- great grandchild in June. Peggy also leaves her memories of steadfast friendship to countless others, all of whom she considered family. Funeral service will be at 10:00am, Friday, January 7, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Forney with Rev. Jerry Griffin officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm, Thursday, Jan. 6, at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel. For those wishing, memorials may be made to FBC-Forney at https://fbcforney.org/give/.
