March 11, 1930 - September 20, 2019
Rachel Holland, of Terrell, closed her eyes on earth and opened them in Heaven where she was finally able to see her Lord, Jesus, face to face. Rachel was also reunited with her beloved husband, N.V., her son, Larry Holland and sister, Barbara Griffin, and parents, L.D. and Maggie (Ditto) White, all of whom preceded her in death. Rachel was born March 11, 1930 in Royse City, TX, one of six children in a family filled with love and faith. In 1945, Rachel was at an ice cream parlor in Terrell where a young man coming home from serving in WWII promptly told his friends that she was the girl he would marry. That young man was N.V. Holland and he made good on his word and on Aug. 3, 1946, they married and had over 70 wonderful years together until his passing in 2016. Rachel worked for Terrell State Hospital as a Ward Clerk where her always cheerful personality and her willingness to help patients and staff made her an invaluable employee until her retirement in 1992. Rachel was a devoted servant of the Lord and a charter member (since the age of 7) of Terrell First Assembly of God. She will forever be remembered by her church family and all who knew her as a fearless prayer warrior who would, as the apostle Paul counseled us all, pray without ceasing and in all things, Rachel gave thanks to her Lord. She was a woman who lived her faith and there wasn’t a moment that went by that she didn’t reach out to others to share the Gospel or help them pray during both happy and challenging times. She embodied the love of Jesus for all in that Rachel only saw others as brothers and sisters in Christ and she willingly gave her time, her attention, her friendship and her love to all God’s children. A faithful wife, loving mother, beloved grandmother and cherished friend, every person that was privileged to know Rachel was truly blessed. Those left to carry on Rachel’s unconditional love are her daughters, Dianne High and husband, Hollis, of Kaufman, Shirley Bushnell and husband, Worth “PeeWee”, of Terrell; granddaughter, Rebecca Bunch and husband, Bobby Glenn, of Terrell; sisters: Dorothy McClung, Mittie Bowden and husband, David, Carolyn Davis and husband, Jackie; brother, Bill White and wife, Vernell as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family, church family and a host of friends who will miss her dearly. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. September 25, 2019, at First Assembly of God Church in Terrell with interment following at Highland Memorial Gardens in Terrell. Her family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel. For those who wish, her family asks that donations be made to the First Assembly of God Terrell, 203 Main St., Terrell, Texas.
