    February 17, 2022

Rena Baker McConnell, beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully into the presence of her Savior on February 17, 2022 at the age of 95. Rena was born on July 24, 1926 in Kaufman County to Josie and Charles Baker. Rena loved life on the farm and always loved telling the lively stories of her childhood and memories made growing up. She moved to Dallas in 1948 where she graduated from University Beauty School and worked as a beautician for seven years. Rena married James Maurice McConnell in 1952, and to the couple was born one son, James Charles McConnell. Rena was a member of First Baptist Church in Forney, and loved going each year to the Christmas music performance. Rena was employed at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas for 25 years. After her retirement, she lived in Forney with her mother, Josie Baker, whom she cared for until her death in 1997. Rena was a vibrant person who loved to have a good time and joke with everyone she met. She leaves behind a legacy of love and fun. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Eva Jo Walters, her brother, Charles Baker, and grandson, Rusty Dobbs. She is survived by her son, Jim McConnell and wife, Becky, and grandchildren Jeff and Brandy Dobbs, great grandchildren, Jacob, Jayci and Emily Dobbs, as well as several nieces and nephews and her many friends at Ridgecrest Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Graveside service will be at 3:30pm, Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022 at Morrow Chapel Cemetery in Ola Community, Texas. Her family will receive friends from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, Rena's family is strongly suggesting memorials be made to Morrow Chapel Cemetery Association, PO Box 430, Kaufman, TX, 75142.
