    Vera Dennis McManus

    April 11, 1932 - February 23, 2019

Vera Mae McManus, longtime resident of Poetry, passed away peacefully on Feb. 23, 2019. She was born April 11, 1932 in Hunt County, Texas to Willie Philmore and Lillie Mae (Monk) Dennis. Vera was met in Heaven by her beloved husband, Roland McManus, parents and brothers: Willie Glenn, Leon, Albert “Tootsie”, Joe and Larry Dennis. She was a member of Poetry United Methodist Church where she was an active member until her health began to decline. Vera loved making quilts and her handiwork and talent was readily seen in the Poetry Women’s Fellowship that provided quilts, lap quilts, prayer shawls, chemo caps, baby booties, leg warmers, pillows, afghans, and so much else. A generous heart, each of Vera’s original creations was covered in love. She also loved to fish and especially enjoyed watching the flowers bloom and the different birds visit her home. A special woman with a beautiful smile and laugh, Vera will be missed by all who knew her. Vera is survived by her brothers: Mike Dennis, Billy Dennis and wife, Sue, and James Dennis; sisters-in-law: Anna Sue Dennis, Pamela Dennis and Judy Dennis, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, church family and a host of friends. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Campground Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6 pm to 8 pm Monday February 25, 2019 at Max Slayton Funerals and Cremations.
