Betty Wilson

Betty Wilson peacefully passed away in her home on May 19, 2025 with her caregiver Claudia Riojas at her side. Betty was born Oct. 26,1928 in Dallas, TX to William Nelms, Sr. and Hortense (Doyle) Curry, both of whom met her in Heaven. Also to meet Betty were her beloved son, William “Will” Wilson, her brother, William “Buddy” Curry, Jr. and her sister-in-law, Marjorie Packwood. At a young age, her family moved to Louisville, KY. She always had a love of cats and dogs. She was never without at least one. When the family moved to the country, they always had plenty as well as cows and chickens. She attended college at the University of Louisville. While there, she met Marjorie Packwood who became her best friend. One weekend while Margie was staying with the Curry’s, Betty’s brother came home from the service. Getting to meet Betty’s guest, eventually enabled Betty and Margie to become not only friends but sisters when Margie and Bill married. Betty left U of L and started work at A&T where she met Bill Wilson. Although the marriage did not last, Betty and Bill had a son, William, and she was blessed with two step-children, Jay (who preceded her in passing) and Debbie, whom she dearly loved. Betty eventually went to work at the Men’s Reformatory and, again, began taking classes at U of L. When she retired and had earned her bachelor's degree, she returned to Texas. She showed her giving and caring nature by becoming active at FUMC, delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered at the library. Processing new books was the ideal job for her as she loved to read. Soon she started seeing the world with Tom and Rose Snow and the Vicers and Anne Davidson’s bank trips. She was always in awe of the many things she was able to see thanks to them. After her son’s death, she stayed home and developed a daily routine of working her crosswords, reading and watching sports particularly basketball and taking care of her dog, Baby. Special thanks to her neighbors, Larry Moore and Susan Jump for watching out for her, and Silvio Lopez for taking care of anything she asked. The last two months were made so much easier by Karen Soto and her dear ladies, Lyda Poteet, Alexia Sarmiento and Claudia Riojas. Bristol Hospice made her last few days easier. Left to cherish her memory are her niece, Sarah Coffman (Barbara)and step-daughter, Debbie Wilson (Sylvia).
