Bobby Merchant

Bobby Glenn Merchant, of Terrell, Texas passed away on January 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Bobby was born to Travis Merchant and Shirley (McDonald) Merchant on November 11, 1972 in Texarkana, Texas and was preceded in death by his father, daughter Brittany, grandfather Wayne McDonald, and mother-in-law, Edith Abner. Bobby could only be described as the “All-American Texan” and his pride in his country AND his home state was clearly seen in his devotion to keeping simple values as the most important values: honesty, integrity, solid work ethic and generosity. Anyone who met Bobby knew he would always say what he thought, and he would always have your back. Bobby met the love of his life Charlene Abner in 2007 and together they were a perfect match for each other’s laughter and sense of adventure. In 2009, they were joyously married, and Bobby had one more surprise for his bride when he arrived to the ceremony in a tractor bucket with “She Thinks my Tractor’s Sexy” blasting in the background, a true testament to Bobby’s fun-loving character AND their love story! He was a fun, laid back, relaxed kind of man who not only devoted himself to his wife, but to each member of his family. He never met a stranger and would take anyone in to help them at a moment’s notice, no matter the need whether it be big or small. Bobby would immediately give you the shirt off his back and included everyone because that was just the kind of man Bobby was. Not only did Bobby have compassion and love for others, he loved animals as well. Dixie, his potbelly pig, was one of his best friends. She knew when he would be walking through the door and Dixie was always there, patiently waiting, to bring a smile to Bobby’s face after a long day working. Bobby also had a passion and talent for woodworking and spent his time restoring, repairing, and refinishing projects. He lived a fun and leisurely life whether it was at the casino or on the fishing bank and every moment spent with Bobby turned into a lifetime memory, all of which will continue to be treasured by everyone who loved him. Left to cherish Bobby’s memory are his wife of 14 years, Charlene; daughters: Breeanna Murphy and husband, Samuel, and Judy Merchant; sons: Kody Scott and wife, Courtney, and Brandon Merchant; mother, Shirley McClure; brothers: Michael Merchant and wife, Bonnie, Kenneth Merchant, Jeff Merchant and wife, Karen, and Gary Merchant; sister-in-law, Kathryn Pike; grandkids: Austin, Heaven, Kaitlyn, Charley, Aaron, and Riley; great grandchild, Oaklee as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, all who will miss Bobby very much. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the Max Slayton Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in Terrell, Texas. Bobby’s family will receive his many friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 22, 2024 at the funeral home.
