Diane Melvin

Diane New Melvin, of Talty, TX passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at home surrounded by her Husband and family members. Diane was born January 13,1944 in Byars, Oklahoma to Robert C. (R.C.) New and Lucille Wanda New. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert E. New and her brother-in-law Calvin D. Melvin and sister-in-law Mary Melvin. Diane grew up in Enid, Oklahoma where she attended Middle School. She married her childhood sweetheart, Jesse Melvin and had Deborah (Debbie) Melvin and Tony Melvin. They later moved to Mesquite, TX for better job and education opportunities. She was a voracious reader, competed in church softball leagues, participated in a co-ed bowling work league with her husband, sister & brother-in-law, loved watching her Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboys play football, Broadway shows, loved Masterpiece theatre and many of the British murder mystery series on PBS. She also loved music. She used her beautiful voice singing solo’s and duet’s with her sister Patricia and participating in church choirs on Sunday Mornings and Christmas and Easter concerts at West Mesquite Baptist Church (FKA Rollingwood Baptist) and Talty Baptist Church for many years. Her faith was paramount. Growing up in a closeknit neighborhood in Enid, as a child she began attending church with her neighbor’s Nellie & Adolf Siebel and Elvina & Bud Melvin. Her faith grew even more when moving to Texas. She was active in attending and serving in multiple capacities for her local church from teaching Vacation Bible School, leading Bible Studies, going on mission trips and participating in planning committees. She loved reading her Bible and listening to KLTY and KCBI on the radio. She built deep relationships with the many people and families over the years at Talty Baptist and West Mesquite Baptist churchs’. She practiced generosity through her tithing, volunteering, and supporting missions of all types. She was a loyal and conscientious employee throughout her adult life. She was as a customer service rep/model for Hancock Fabrics and Counter Sales Rep for Tick-Tock ClockShop as a pricing/contract specialist for Watson Electric Supply, Warren Electric Supply and Reynolds Supply. Finally, her dedication to family defined her character throughout her life. Her marriage lasted almost 70 years due to both wife and husband being committed to God and to each other. Dad’s presence calmed her She raised 3 generations of children and managed her parents care until they passed away. She practiced self-lessness, patience and reliance on God’s provision and wisdom with the challenges that life brought her way. One of her incredible gifts was seeing and then believing the best in people. She knew her identity was founded in Christ’s example of mercy and grace and knew that extending grace and mercy was her purpose to those in her circle of influence. Diane is survived by her husband, Jesse Melvin, her daughter, Deborah Herring and her husband Todd Herring; her son, Tony Melvin and his wife Shelley Melvin; her grandchildren Jessica Durbin; Chris Abell, and his wife, Lindsey Abell; Carrie Pineda and her husband, Andrew Pineda; Matthew Melvin and his wife, Mikayla Melvin; and granddaughter Taylor Melvin. Diane is survived by 13 great grand children and 3 great great grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters Patricia Ann Melvin & Judith Anne Walters and her husband Jerry Walters and her brother-in-law Fred J. Melvin. She is also survived by 7 nieces and nephews and their spouses and children. The care, love and service that was shown to my Mom over the last several years by Victor Markel, Georgia Swoveland, Gene McLeod and Pastor Lyle Wallace and the whole Talty Baptist family has been such an encouragement to our family. Diane's granddaughter Jessica and great granddaughter Audrey were committed to caring for her and Jesse around the clock in their home during the last several years.
